I realize that i've already made a thread like this that is practically identical in every aspect, but this one is on different games and a different kind of game.
I've always been a big fan of JRPGs, no matter what Overlord Yahtzee says, and i don't plan on missing out on any good ones.
The games in question here are Tales of Vesperia and Eternal Sonata.
I beat Tales of Symphonia 1 back when it came out all that time ago on the gamecube, and it's been my favorite JRPG since.
I have never played Eternal Sonata but it looks good in the reviews i've seen.
I'm sure some of you fellow gamers out there have played both Vesperia and Eternal Sonata, what do you think i should get? And please don't say both because i can't afford both : ).

Thank you for your time.

Well Sundavar, Eternal Sonata is actually a very good game. It's awesome looking, has a nice story, plays very well (free movement crossed with turn based combat) and is very cheap if you look. There are a few problems though:

1. It requires a second playthrough to get everything. Not because you may miss something, but they hold stuff from you until the second playthrough, which they make twice as hard.
2. It may put off some because...it may be too...cute, if that makes sense.

Regardless, it'll keep you busy for 30 hours at least. Hope that helps.

I have never played Vesperia but have played Symphonia (which I did really like). As for Eternal Sonata I found that to be a let down. I started to enjoy it hoping it would build up but it didn't. The script was poor and unfunny (compared to Tales games) and the batte system I thought was stupid. It made it harder for you as the story increased, I don't mean harder enemies, it gave you less time to do you command and moves etc. I was half expecting it to lock random buttons and slow your movement or something equaly stupid. However it is has nice music and is quite enjoyable to a point but I never got passed chapter 4. Overall it felt like a week tales game, with a different battle system that didn't work too well (in my opinion) and did not have the depth of a Tales game.

P.S. Minor point but when a Jap voice says 'Chopin' and the English sub says 'Frederik' kinda strikes me as lazy.

I certainly know how to appreciate games that are cheaper than others :)
I don't really care how kiddy a game is, and Eternal Sonata's combat looks interesting.
Although it seems like it would get boring or repetitive after a while, is this the case?

Well yes but you get a lot of characters to use...so you get to attack a lot...with more characters...meaning more level grinding. So yes. If anything I recommend the PS3 version more than the 360 version, as it has more quests and stuff to do.

Well now i don't know who to believe.
Being a big tales fan myself, i find it easy for the bias to slip me over to the Tales game, but Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World was a real letdown to me.
The regular enemies take way too long to kill and the character movement and attacking feels really clunky and unresponsive.
Can anyone provide any light on whether the new Tales game is as clunky as Symphonia II, or is it awesometastic like the original?

Unfortunately i do not have a PS3, nor do i have the money to buy one or plans to buy one in the future, so i'm purely looking at stuff for the 360, since the wii is a gimp that i've pretty much given up on

Lost Odyssey is a fantastic turn-based JRPG. From the creators of the original Final Fantasy games.
http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.96887#1505354

Infinite Undiscovery / Star Ocean : The Last Hope are 2 real-time hack 'n slash JRPG'S.
http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.108822#1844490

The Last Remnant is a Square-Enix game that has a fresh, but tedious combat system and an interesting world to explore.

Blue dragon is a fantastic anime styled world - the game features turn-based combat and an interesting story.

As for ToV - Its not even been released here in the UK, but I have played the demo and am looking foreword to it, even if the combat system does not particularly appeal to me.

Vesperia was whored out to be as JRPG-trash as it could, so they could actually sell the game on the Xbox. Regardless, I actually liked the game a lot, even if it doesn't measure up to Symphonia. You can't compare other Namco Tales games to Symphonia, since it's considered one of the best.

I've heard that The Last Remnant was very boring and stale from a friend of mine.
I'll have to check out Lost Odyssey

In your review of lost odyssey, you mentioned 12 second loading times. Are these common, or is that the very worst of it?

Once before I installed it to my hard-drive, load times are extremely quick regardless, but after installation the longest I found was a maximum of 5 seconds.

Alright.
I think i've decided to go with lost odyssey since i loved Final Fantasy X and this game reminds me of it (yes i'm aware the ring system makes it different). Thank you all for your advice. I wish i had an infinite amount of money to buy xbox 360 games with but since that is not the case i find it important to know which games are preferable to others BEFORE going out and buying them : D.
