The console versions of Oblivion are not modifiable though there is down loadable content for them.

It is worth getting because it has great graphics (I had the same prediciment as you) and except from the modding doesn't suffer any console dumbing down or anything.

I know the GOTY editions (both on PS3 and 360) both come with Knights of the Nine, The Shivering Isles and some other tidbits but I don't think you can mod any of them.

Anyway, Vanilla Oblivion is pretty darn fun on the consoles, but if you really wanted to try out some mods, I'd say upgrade your PC.

Not quite true, the Ps3 version is modifiable if memory serves.
Your memory serves incorrect.

Neither console version of Oblivion has a modification option. For that ye would need a PC.

well the good thing bout the pc version ( i did this in morrowin but they use thesame editor so the principle is the same) when there is a minor glitch you can enter the editor and correct it yourself

Nope, you might be thinking of Unreal Tornament 3 though, Indingo?
Ah. Any reason why, or did Bethseda just not leave that door open?
Well considering it's written on the Bethesda forums then, you'd assume they probably did this intentionally.

Actually, mods do work on consoles, just look at Unreal Tournament 3, but I don't think the developers had really thought about it that much. But mods can definetely work on consoles.
Microsoft don't like the idea of foreign content on their 360 but that should really be up to the user. It's not possible (yet) to actually make the modifacation on a console.

How was UT 3 moddable for consoles? Sorry I am not up to date with 360 stuff.

There's a tool for PC mods which "cook" them for PS3. Go over to Unreal Tournament 3 forums at Epic Games, you'll find proof there in any of User Modifacations.
Also, it's probably because the developers never put the funds into writing code which allows the game to intergrate foreign content. I'm not sure if that is right but that is most likely the reason.
Edit: Only the PS3 version of UT3 can have mods.

I guess you could do simple moding but it would be buggy, like making your own glitch.

I'm no expert, all I know is you can do simple things at most.
