This experiance is going to blow your mind when it comes out, imagine you turn your x box on and you dont feel like playing with a controller, thats alright because what natal aims for is to make your body the controller.
If its anything to go by the trailer most games should be able to adapt to this new project. Any ways please tell me what you think about the idea on a whole.

Seems like a good idea, but I'm skeptical on how accurate it's going to be. Did you see the strange twisting of the limbs going on with the little demo they showed on screen? If they take their time with the project and work out as many kinks as possible, I'm sure Natal will turn out to be a good step towards VR gaming. Until then, I'll be happy to pick up my little buttoned friend.

You made 156 posts with this kind of fanboyism? Surely you can't watch this and not be skeptical... do you remember the hype over the Wiis control system?

Some of that video is believable but that bit where the girl tries on the virtual dress is so fake. Not even the dialogue is realistic.
And seriously, their slogan is "the only experience you need is life experience" *facepalm*

EDIT: How many press ups can Chuck Norris do? They got me sold on that quiz game.

oh yeah, i remember that, it was "revolutionary" but really, those things have the worst sensitivity ever, and the graphics on the games, terrible.
Wii Motion Plus ís going to fix that, however, way too late ofcourse. That's how the Wii should've been at launch. And now Sony announced "PS3 Motion PlusPlus" wich will probably even surpass the Wii. Nintendo makes me sad.

Thing is it looks awesome.

But its only as awesome as the games developed for it and if Wii/DS developers are anything to go by they will fail at creating anything decent for it.

Anyone remember 1983? Where Atari got a fad with something they logically shouldn't get one with and everybody started ripping them off, resulting in only crap coming out and the market crashing?

I'm really not convinced that the games gamers love will actually work on this system.

Remember the Eye Toy on PS2? Exactly.
It doesn't matter how fancy the tech is, or how much fun you have the first week you get it.
The games are all that will matter.

I predict that it creates a niche for a while, and Microsoft will make some games and some smaller developers will make a few, and one or two of those will make a good living at these games for a few years.

More established, independent developers will shy away from making games that most of the market, not owning a Natal, won't be able to play.

Microsoft's next console won't incorporate the technology as standard.

Or I could be wrong. I remember an arcade game called 24/7 Cop or something that used stuff like this. It was tons of fun. If it came with a similar game, and was the right price, I'd buy it.

Xbox is now that much better...but I am concerend because all it would take would be one dick to screw you up or someone to acadentaly walk over the motion pad

Ok.
Haha, first thing I thought when I saw it.

Then the whole "play video games with your family" thing came in and now its just a Wii without the Wiimote, ie a crappy gimick made for casuals.

Yes I remember the god-dammed eyetoy. It sucked.

But that's not to say that Project Natal might suck too. While the technology to fully capture your entire body in a video game sounds like it could have a ton of cool game possibilities, it does bring some questions to my mind.

How much would it cost?
What are the limitations?
Will I be able to give other people the finger?

Until these questions are answered, I'm gonna remain skeptical.

Ya know, I just thought, this brings a whole new dimension to teabagging in Halo... Possibilities I rather not think off.

I will miss my force-feedback racing wheel and the vibration of my gamepad when using the Gravity Hammer. So, not for me.

I'm not sure I like it. First off, with NO controller in your hands, how are you going to pull off special moves in say a fighting game, you'll have to get martial arts lessons to be able to do anything in the game really which is fucking stupid. Plus I don't like the pure mime gestures. I want to be holding *SOMETHING* while playing. I'll still prefer Wiimote over this thing.

Thing about the Wiimote is that aside from Wii-fit, you can still sit in a comfortable easy chair and play games, you're still holding a controller, so it still feels like playing a video game. There's just a little more interactivity since you may use pointer/waggle functions a bit.

But this Natal thing looks like it comes close to uncanny valley.. too real but not quite real enough.

I watched this video on my 360 yesterday and found it interesting but still filled with fault.

I'm a very busy person and I like to relax and unwind by sitting down and playing games, nothing on that video showed me a relaxing time after a long day's work. I don't think my CasEvac team would have loved playing Halo 2 against each other if we had to use the Natal Experience (somehow) just to have the CasEvac bell ring and then have to run out to the helicopters then spend the next 45 min to a couple hours trying to save people's lives when we just spent a massive amount of energy playing video games.

Next, I'm not sure how that kid on the video would pull off anything greater than a 180; maybe a 360 but sure the heck not a 720 or 900. What does he do, yell out that he's doing a 720 and the game does it for him? I would have loved to do that with 1080 for the N64 when trying to pull off the fabled 1080. I also doubt his parents would let him play that particular game after they go to bed: "Steven! What have we told you about playing Tony Hawk after your father and I go to bed?! This is the 3rd night in a row that you've kept us up late banging around trying to pull off tricks in that game!"

I could go on ripping this thing (and the exaggerated video) apart, but I'll let other people fill in those blanks for now.

All-in-all this is niche market inside the regular video game market and should be treated as such. Let's all not forget what happens when you treat a niche idea as the thing that will take over the market [points at the Nintendo Power Glove] it flops and does so because the hardware developers spool up idea an idea like this and try and pawn it off on the developers who would rather produce for the regular market.

So EyeToy turbo edition. Also They have like a 3m square right in front of their TV if your living room is normal size or if heaven forbid you have furniture that isn't going to work.

If the quality of games they showed in that horrible advertisment is what they are aiming for as a market it will fall fucking horribly, seriously how much fun would that be id be bored by the hour. The problem with a project like this is how do you make it widespread, its extremley limited by how much effort it would take for developers to incorporate movment, responses, speach etc etc how owuld any development team make a game with lasting appeal around such a time consuming process?

In short congrats Microsoft your about to get a piece of the shovelware market.
