If it isnt bad enough that my computer was down for a week but then my Xbox 360 crashed, all I got was an error message and E 74 is there anyone else with this problem and how can I fix it?

I had that a long time ago but I honestly don't remember how I fixed it but it's working now. But do not call tech support because they are no help at all.

EDIT: actually I remembered after I posted this. It is a problem with the internal hard drive. I had to replace mine and lost a whole lot of game saves. That sucked but I did get some free games a memory card and a new hard drive.

Thanks Sanity, I'll take it from here.

Yeah, it's a bad problem, kinda like RROD, only less common, so it isn't covered by the extended warranty.

Well I disassembled mine, reworked the heat-sinks and cooked it. It resurrected the 'box but with some performance drop - noticeable generally in really odd ways like certain text fields not loading in Forza and slightly extended load times on Gears 2.

But it died tonight, surviving less than a week in its weakened state. Happily I am in the midst of coursework hell and my birhday is just around the end of it. New Elite for me I think.

In case you haven't already gone to MS's site:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/941377
It seems the E74 error is related to video problems caused by either a faulty AV connector or, more often, a loosened ANA/HANA scaling chip. ( http://games.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=09/03/23/0337244&from=rss )

Lastly, this site has a ton of info:

D: Why? That is stupid so he has to just get a new xbox or something?
MS will still repair it, it'll just cost a lot. Not sure where he lives, but for me, it was $99 USD if I set it up online and $120 if I set it up over the phone (no idea what the difference is). Less than a new 360, but still a lot. If out of warranty, see if you can get it repaired cheaper at a local place.
