Only console that died on me was the Xbox 360. I had had it for a couple of years and then it red ringed. Got a new one free though.
One time I dropped my Gamecube from about 5ft up, but it was completely fine. The bottom right corner had a small chip, and that was the complete extent of the damage. My N64 still works great, and I have yet to have problems with my PS3

My DS' top screen stopped working quite unexpectedly. That was not a happy occasion for me. Then there was a problem with my PS3 not reading my disks correctly. At least we change the storage devices on that thing.
I currently have an original Xbox and an old white Xbox 360 buried in my closet somewhere. Both dead.
While I know we've retrieved any discs that may have been in there at the time, I still often want to go and check.

My first PS2. Oh lord, me and that thing went through a lot, but it eventually started getting the infamous "Disc Read Error." This was a problem with the original fat one where, over time, the belt/track/whatever that the laser moved on wore out. It'd prevent you from starting a game, but once the game started, you were golden. And the other thing was, it was only part of the belt/track/whatever that wore out (prolly b/c of the direction of downward force relative to the machine from the weight of the disc.) It was also really finicky depending on the type of disc (the blue ones were the worst) or the specific disc.
So at first I started putting the console upright. Eventually that stopped working, so I put it upside down. Over time, it got to the point where I had to precariously balance the corners of the PS2 between my wall and my CRT TV's back to suspend it in strange angles to enable certain games to play. I put up with this way longer than I prolly should have, though I eventually just bought a slimline.

My ps3 was corrupted so I took it in to best buy to get it replaced. The little bastard decided to start working there so I took it back home where it decided to corrupt itself again
I've got a few console death stories, with both Microsoft and Sony consoles.
Okay. So the first console death story I have is with the Playstation 3, back in 2007. I got the $600 monolith of doom for christmas and for a while, it worked great. everything was so damn beautiful: the lush jungles in Uncharted 1, to the expansiveness of the landscape in Assassin's Creed, to the sheer cacophony of onscreen action in the newest Ratchet & Clank. It was AWESOME. But then, in February 2008, Sony released an update that bricked the fucking console. They did nothing to help the customer: the only reason why that $600 didn't turn into $1200 was because it was insured by the local Best Buy. Unfortunately we couldn't replace it with an identical model since those had sold out, so we waited four fucking months to get a replacement. That's right: we waited until June 6th, just in time for Metal Gear Solid 4. So we get the replacement and a couple months later, it bricks yet again. same song and dance, different day. This happened a grand total of four times. Five different consoles. I also lost my saves in the last one. Ouch.
The next one was from when I got my XBox 360. I got it in Christmas 2008, and had it for about ten months. then the Ethernet card malfunctioned. Sent it in, replaced it, yada yada. Then I had that console for about four or five months until it crapped out DURING the motherfucking HALO REACH BETA. I was midgame and then the screen turned green and then POW! red ring. I didn't get a replacement until the beta was over. Then during the summer I went through a two more boxes until I got a nice shiny black model from the mid-cycle refresh. That one has been with me for nearly three years now.
I also went through several PSPs and a PS2. I don't seem to have much luck with these things. Funnily enough I've never ever had to replace one of my Nintendo consoles. Shows you who's got the best build quality, that's for sure.

I had a cube that appeared to die on me. I took it apart to try to "fix" it and really blew it all the heck. Later, I realized it was the Xmen 2 RPG in it that was scratched and could not play. At least you could buy new Cubes for around $50 then (or $100 with a $40 game) but by then, I was moving on to Gen 7 and I still had a few other cubes lying around. I'd lost enough of my valuable play time and traded in parts (threw away HD and console) and got enough with parts and game trade ins to by a bunch of PS3 stuff to keep me busy till Gen 8 comes out. I do miss the 360 as it, IMHO, was the best straight up game console of Gen 7. I would only want to replace it to play Halo 4. All things considered, that would have cost me a fortune for that one game.
Worst lost game save ever?
I had a maxed out Wizard in the first Diablo game. I would walk around dungeons almost invulnerable blowing stuff up because I could. My PC died and took my Wizard with it.
I bought mine in 2007, Arcade version with seperate memory stick for saves. Some time later bought unofficial 250 gB HDD from eBay. Still works fine. And I play quite a lot on it - burning through my third controller now. Yet every other person on the internet cries that you have to buy a new one every year. Maybe because I'm an IT guy and know how to take care of computers.
My NES was hit by my little fists of fury when I was a kid and never showed proper colors again and later it died.
Later PS1 stopped reading discs, but I think putting it at an angle or some other trick, can't recall now, gave some more months to live. Ofcourse when PS1 finally died staying at home became so boring...
And one time my PC "broke", service reinstalled windows and my GTA3 save was gone, NOOOOOOO.

You have my condolences. It's always hard to lose beloved save files, let alone the console itself.
While none of my consoles ever failed me... I have the sneaky suspicion my dad gave away my old SNES because he THOUGHT it was broken. Whenever I go on a garage binge to look for it he just acts all innocent and says he has no idea whatever became of it. The bastard.

My PS3 valiantly made it through to the credits when me and my friends were watching Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter, then just stopped working, wouldn't turn back on. The saves weren't really an issue as I'd finished any game I was interested in anyway, but the PS1 Classics downloaded to the hard drive, I miss my Crash/Oddworld/Final Fantasy/Medieval/probably some others. Poor big old monolith. Occasionally missed.
I'm not sure if it counts as the same thing, but I killed 3 Playstations from overuse.

Well, the screen on my original gameboy is getting weak. other than that, no console has ever died in my care. (That's not entirely true. I did "dissect" an old PS2 because we had the smaller version as well. With various household tools. It didn't survive the procedure.
My 360 is 5 years old, and my Snes is 20. Nary a hiccup despite extensive use. Lucky me

I got an Xbox 360. A week later, it red-ringed. I took it in and they replaced it. That one lasted several years. Then it died. I got another. It red ringed the next day. I replaced it. So far so good.
That's 4 Xbox360s in about 5 years. Not a great track record considering all my other consoles still work, except the NES, but that one lasted 20 years.

Oh, I've tried that but I'm afraid my room might be the one that draws the most energy out of all the rooms in the house. And it's also the warmest. Which is not good.SkarKrow said:
So far, I have my PS3, 360, Wii, N64, GameCube and I leave one slot open to charge my GBA and GBC. I literally do not have any room left to set up my PS2 and SNES; I had to compromise.
As it is, I barely use my N64 and GameCube because I'm too lazy to go hook it up every time I wanna play it. I rather just switch to HDMI 1 and play with my PS3...
Hmm. Nope, I don't have any stories. I still own my launch PS2, my launch PS3 and my launch 360 and they all run fine.
I've had to replace controllers a fair few times due to a certain family member's anger management issues and general use, but aside from that, I've been pretty damn lucky so far.[footnote]of course, I never use my PS2 now due to launch PS3 having backwards compatibility.[/footnote]

Try plugging one strip into the end of another, idk if that's safe in the US though, it is here. I have 2 sets of 2 outlets in my room, I have one of those dedicated to charging devices, the other is dedicated to my stereo system and DAB radio.Beautiful End said:

My room, it drains teh power also. I'm gonna be demoting the PS2 to the secondary strip (which btw has it's own switches on, was pretty cheap too like under £10), and sticcking a Wii U in the main strip with the PS3 and TV

It fails to read discs 75% of the time (have to eject and reinsert numerous times), and it apparently has a bias against Super Smash Brothers Melee. It'll get to the match results screen and then freeze. Gamecube still reads the disc just fine, there isn't many marks on it at all despite being over a decade old and hundreds of hours well used.
Oh well. Nothing really lost when it finally kicks the bucket.

The one day, without warning, as I started a game, it made this horrible soul-freezing sound. As if Satan's anus itself had come from Hell to eat and grind to dust the game inside my console.
Fearing some kind of satanic possession, I unplugged it. Tried again, same noise without the game in. "Well, time for an Xbox Slim then!".
The slim had just hit the shelves and I wanted to play online without needing to drag 15meters or cable to the router.
Not even mad. Just kind of nostalgic.
