Ok I've recently got rid of my Xbox and have only got my PS3 now, and in the few months I haven't been exposed to Xbox Live Community (XBLC for threads sake) I have only been in one game where people were talking smack. And it was only one person at that. So I sat down with a few friends when we were bored and came to the conclusion that it might be because the MS gives away microphones for free?

Yeah it might be just another way in which Sony can make money but the iconic and infamous 'Squeaky Voice 12 year-old FPS Player' unless the parents deem him/her mature enough or he/she has there own source of funds is not going to be having a microphone on the PSN. But because the Xbox gives away a microphone it gives all the 12 year olds a chance to get there opinion and hate against people that may beat them.

It is particularly strong in Halo and/or Call of Duty games. (Or used to be, I'm not really up to date) So what do you think may be the biggest contribution towards the XBLC? Or have you never had a problem before because you only play in parties or chat to friends or are just damn lucky?

Discuss. :p

I think it is because of the Xbox exclusives. As you said, it happens a lot in Halo. Because MS charge for the service, they focus a lot on multiplayer, hence more people. This added with your microphone idea is pretty much why you get them.

It's because everybody gets a mike. On PSN, they're either gonna be dedicated douchebags, or want to talk strategy.

Well, more poeple playing on Xbox Live than play on PSN. Stands to reason that you'll run into more immature people if there's more people around. Also worth nothing that a lot of younger people whose parents are buying their consoles, if not all, get an Xbox because they're cheaper. The younger people are generally the ones being annoying I assume. I only really play single player games on Xbox.

I actually completely forgot about the numbers of people playing it being a factor, thanks :p

The XBLC isn't nearly as bad as people make it out to be. I've played at least a thousand games of Halo 3 outside of party-chat and plenty of Halo 2 before that and in only a few (probably less than ten) were there actually bothersome people. Luck certainly doesn't hold after a thousand games, eventually you have to realize a pattern. Although it might have been that I'm simply not easily upset and find humor in people who are overly enthusiastic about the game.

It is true that the average 12-year-old who would play Call of Duty or Halo (or Counter-Strike, or Killzone etc.) when given a voice is going to be an annoying prick with it. However, people often let a few bad examples describe the whole experience.

Something I'd like to note is that the cheapest Xbox 360s don't actually come with a headset, and since these are the ones money-conscious parents are more likely to get for their young kids the issue of "every little kid has a headset" doesn't really exist.

Not to make this a 360vsPS3 debate but Xbox LIVE is silent enough even with almost everyone having a headset. I can't imagine what a graveyard PSN must seem like.

Ah, I wasn't a %100 on the cheaper ones not having a headset but thanks mate.

You get absolute muppets on both Xbox Live and PSN. I find you get less young players on PSN just because the PS3 is more expensive, so parents are more likely to buy their kids an xbox.
