Xbox LIVE... dead or resting?

Just a quick question; does anyone know if the Xbox live website is dying on its arse or just experiencing problems with the upgrade to the new dashboard... not that I'd expect that to impact it, just guessing.

When I try and redeem a code I'm whisked away to a horribly, horribly broken page saying that it's possibly not a member of Windows live. Which doesn't sound at all right.

Like Microsoft would let Xbox Live die...

I went on it earlier to get some advice on connection issues and it just refused to work. I figure they'll sort out eventually.

They're just having some problems. They actually sent out a message over xbox live to tell everyone about them.

presumably in the US only; I sure as hell has no such message.

I didn't get the message, but I did get an email. So I guess that counts.

From what I've seen in the past few weeks (previews, friends in the beta, etc.) I really don't like the changes they're making with this update. The new square tiles, which don't fade off in the distance like the NXE's did, just limit the amount of info onscreen. And that's always bad.

Blame Kinect; this new interface brings Xbox Live into line with the motion sensing demon's interface or some such guff.
