Games like God of War 3, Heavy Rain? There are more interesting games for me on the PS3 than on the 360, which of course is why I opted for the PS3. And I don't know what you're talking about. LittleBigPlanet is obviously a video game. And if Metal Gear Solid 4 isn't a game because it has long cutscenes, wait what? That's like saying Halo 3 isn't a game because it's shit. Unless Live is somehow getting 10 dollars better that's pretty weak. Sure it's only ten bucks a year but paying more for the same thing always sucks. It's not as though there's an increasing shortage of "internets" that make the new ones more valuable.

This really pisses me off. It wont change a thing, the people paying now, including myself will continue paying for it. The worst part is its nothing but a total money grab. The spokesperson just said pretty much that they know they could hike the price up and still keep all subscribers. Not a reason was given, there isnt one, maybe just maybe if they said we're making things cheaper on xbox live or we're adding a ton of free stuff, or even we've been doing tons of maintence and need to pay someone. But no, they are raising it just because theyll make an extra buck from a million people. Oh and then to say you better go out and stock up some gold member subscriptions while its cheaper is a joke. Go buy a ton of our already overpriced stuff before we make it even more overpriced! Your getting a great deal you sheep!

This is insane. As a citizen of a developed country with disposable income to waste on video games, 1$ a month, or 10$ extra a year is an OUTRAGE. Where does microsoft get off? And don't try to sell me that bull shitty 'business model' thing. And then in a few years, they'll raise again. It's not like in three years there will be a new console and a new xbox live service or anything. IM SO ANGRY.

Damn, this is just another reason I'm glad I scrapped my RROD'd 360 and picked up a PS3. Definitely won't be looking back. The thing I really don't get is how similar the two are online. There isn't really anything on XBL that is worth paying for that I can't get for free on PSN. I can play all games online without wasting another dime and I speak to others on my friends list or the genera populace while I play, can't think of anything else I really would need when playing online (cross game chat is a total friggin waste of time and effort).
To me XBL was already a waste of money so this is just another nail in the proverbial coffin...

Years ago I subscribed to Live and quit because I found that it is just a waste considering the only online feature I would use was multiplayer, and now with a more busier life pretty much just quick matches. Back then it was almost a full game ($50) and now we have an upfront fee equal to the cost of a new release... to gain access to half the features on that game? I find the biggest issue that I take with Live is everything it is trying to be that I don't want. I could not care any less about community promotions, features, or what have you. I just want my dusty copy of COD4 or Halo 3 to not be completely useless outside of single player. But guess what? Now that I have a PS3 along with my 360, I find that the former console can handle my needs fine enough.
I have always felt that what Live needed was at the very least different price levels to accomodate those like me who do not have time to make the cost of a Live subscription even worth the cost. I would imagine that there are plenty of people like me that lack the time/dedication to make Live seem worth it (perhaps that crowd of "casual" people Kinect is being aimed at, for instance?), so we are a group who will never buy into it. But what if there was an introductory level besides the sad excuse of "silver?" Ideally, the online portion would be at least accessible in some form for silvers, especially since I have always, and still find, that I can get every basic need other than multiplayer.
The key point is that cost is most likely not the issue, but value. A ten dollar increase to $60 is not much in general terms, but for what value an individual places on the service makes the difference. With the annual fee being an upfront cost, it grabs a person's monetary notice a lot quicker than a monthly rate. Most do not add up monthly payments or fees when they are little, but a flat upfront $50-$60 to me, at least, makes me consider what else I could get instead compared to Xbox Live's paltry return?

Sure, I appreciate that PSN does not charge me anything but, if they did, I would certainly expect a higher quality of service in exchange. The fee is, in all actuality, a trivial matter. I pay more per year to replace the oil in my car. I pay more in a week for food. I pay more in a month for coffee. I pay that same price for a game. While a trivial amount is certainly a greater amount than free, it is an amount that I gladly pay. I wouldn't complain were it cheaper of course, so long as the quality of the service remains the same.

The fact that PSN is free is what ensures I am not annoyed when terrible problems occur or by a less complete feature set or by a less intuitive interface. Admittedly, they are going to upgrade the audio codec and ESPN/Hulu is coming soon. I hope they have some good tricks up their sleeves.
