Xbox live help

Hey guys, I'll get right to the point.

I opened up my Gears of War 2 box today to put the game back in, and wouldn't you know, I found a prepaid card for some GoW2 maps and a 48 hour trial of xbox live gold.
I enter both codes and pop in The Orange Box, hoping to play some TF2 online. But no, I don't get in on unranked or ranked matches. Disappointed, I try it with halo 3 instead. I go to Matchmaking, set up all the settings so I'll get to a game quick, but I wait and wait and nothing happens. I select "Start Matchmaking", but that button is grayed out and when I select it, text under it says "this playlist is rrestricted to xbox live gold members only".
What the fuck?
Any ideas on how to fix this, please? I would be very grateful

No fix. 48 hours trials only give you limited online play and no other Gold benefits like early demos or Deals of the Week.

Moral: The trials won't let you do ranked or anything fancy like that. Go buy some real Gold.

48 hour demos are for NEW ACCOUNTS, not for 48 hours of Gold for an existing account.

You can play online matchmaking, but only with a new account. Maybe this will help?

48 Hour Trails let you do anything apart from the Exclusives.. Reboot your Xbox.
