Ok, so I bought my xbox and made a live account. Then, because I was in a dorm, was not able to keep my xbox hooked up to the internet. So about a month went by and I played alot of games and got alot of acheivements. So, I hooked back up to xbox live to get a demo and, for some reason, I lost most of my acheivements. Now I want to sign back into xbox live, but I dont want to loose all of my acheivements again. Is there any way that I can sign in to xbox live without that happening?

(Question 2: because I have never downloaded a game from xbox live)

When I download a game from xbox live, does it save it to my hard drive or to that profile? Would I be able to play the game on a different profile than the one I downloaded it from?

Q1: That is really strange. I've never heard of losing any achievements when you sign up to LIVE.
Q2:No, you'd have to DL it again to play it on another profile. And yes, it saves to your HD.

Well, the game saves to the hard-drive but needs to be played through the profile in order ot work.
As far as the points go...Were you forced to begin with zero again? If so, then you may have created an entirely new profile without going through your old one. If not, then I have no idea what went wrong.

Not zero. like all of my 99Nights acheivements were gone and half of my acheivements from Bioshock were gone too.

That's really odd, it might be cause of it need being update. If you leave a while the achievements normally update themselves, just like if you get a achievement on games for windows it takes a while for it show on XBL and vice versa.

If that doesn't solve the problem then I don't know what the hell happened.

Achievements show up right away no matter if you are offline or on. They may not show up across the web (like at the official Xbox website) or in your gamertag but they will show up on your console.

Are you sure you gained those achievements through your profile? Before you started playing are you sure it was your profile that was signed in? I have never tried but could a guest (or a non profile) play a game and get achs being the first player and all.

That is true, I'm not disagreeing with you your gained achievements should appear automatically regardless. But that's one possibility.

If I am reading this right they were there and then he signed in and they were gone. What is unclear is if he was looking through his profile on the console itself or if he was going to a website to look for them.

Oh and to answer the second question you can have as many profiles as you want and they will all be able to play any XBL or DLC you buy. Just as long as you are using the same console you bought them on you are gold. If you take your HDD to a friends place and hook it up to thier Xbox then you won't have any access to the DLC unless you are online. Arcade games you own will show up as demos if you are not connected.

perhaps you created a new profile when you made your xbox live account, not just upgraded your old one. THat's really all I can think off.

This happened to me before, I just replayed the games and got the achievements back. I didn't pussy-foot around. I was annoyed, but I just went about the grind and did it. I mean, it only happened to me for two games...

1)This happened to my friend before. The cause was that like you made an xbl account at home. then he moved to a dorm and didnt connect to xbox live there. But he connected to his account at my house on my xbox by "recovering gamertag"

So his profile was last updated on my xbox. Then he got loads of achievements at his house later on, came home for christmas, signed on at his own house again, and bam. 2000+ gamerscore gone. This is caused from the recovering gamertag. when he signed on at mine, my xbox became the last "Checkpoint" of gamerpoints. So when he signed on at his, his xbl account used the "checkpoint" score because his xbl last online date was after his last online date on his own console.

Im sorry if that isnt quite clear... so heres the fact.

The gamerpoints you got in your dorm room are gone. You'll have to get them again.
At least its an excuse to play some old games again.

2) Its saved to your harddrive, but only the profile which is was downloaded with can be used to play it

EDIT: #2) is incorrect. Next time il double check

No #2 is dead wrong. Think about it for a second. If you had to buy a game twice to be able to play it in couch co op people would never buy them. Or your friend wouldn't be able to play any co op with DLC. As long as the profile is on your HDD that profile can play anything you D/L. You could make 1000 profiles and they would all have access to the games as long as they are on the same console (not HDD) that you D/Led them on. Everything you D/L is tied to your console. You can transfer all that info to any other HDD plug that HDD into your console and it will be fine. Take that HDD and put it into a different console and you will have a problem.

Right now I have 4 different profiles (or is it 5?) profiles on my HDD. My wife's, my Japanese acct, my friend's general profile (since none of my friends have 360s) and mine. I hae never checked the Japanese acct. but all the other accounts have no problems playing any arcade game or DLC I have bought. My wife has a ton of arcade achs for games bought with my profile. And I only buy games once.

WHAT HAVE YOU DONE????? The universe is tearing itself apart. The end is nigh. You can't go around the internet admitting you were wrong all willy nilly. It is a defiance of every natural law. :D

Off topic Mothership Zeta is due out Aug. 3rd (5th Fallout DLC pack)

I think what might have happened was an update reset your profile.
As for the second question: It saves the game to your harddrive and all profiles on that console have access to it. Same goes with all DLC.
