So, yeah, are mandatory installs still a thing for XBox One?
And can you install one game on more than one XBox?

Also, why do I have to be online in order to install from a disc?

Your questions are already answered:
Installing: http://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-one/games/install-games
Playing on other consoles: http://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-one/games/playing-across-multiple-consoles
Online Requirement: http://www.xbox.com/en-GB/xbox-one/get-the-facts

From the facts page:
Your Xbox One doesn?t need to be connected for you to enjoy offline features of games. In fact, you can take the Xbox One anywhere and play any disc-based Xbox One game on it. The only times you need an online connection are for initial set-up of Xbox One, and to get the latest system and title updates before you start playing some games.

Thanks for the links

I can't find an explanation as to why installing Dead Rising 3 kept stopping due to "network issues" whenever I tried it offline
