I have tried EVERYTHING! I have opened it up and removed every single piece of dust I could find, I've left it to cool down, I've turned a fan on it while playing, I've taken one of the covers off. I've tried everything I can think of and it still. KEEPS. F***ING OVERHEATING!!!!!

Often I find it does this when I try to play Dishonored, during the loading screen for the Sewers at the beginning. If we time I go to that loading screen it crashes without fail, I've tried installing the game on my hard drive but I don't even have 15 minutes to do that in before, you guessed it, it overheats again!

So, what else can I do.

P.S.: Please no posts saying get a PC/PS3. I already have the former and can't afford the latter.

Cactcha: keep calm.

THROW OUT YOUR XBOX AND GET A WII

found a loophole ;)

How about some more info? How old is it? Old or slim model? Have you ever tried those cooler attachments?

Can you be sure it's actually overheating or could it be some other malfunction?
If nothing is clogged up and cooling is running then the exactness of that failure sound more like a memory problem (once it fills up to a corrupted section things go wrong, or once it accesses a faulty part of the hard drive).

Where are you keeping the X-Box?

I've known people to keep them in enclosures that don't have particularly good venting, causing the system to overheat pretty rapidly.

Its likely that one of the two primary CPUs (one is general, other is graphics) has become damaged by the original "overheat".

Nothing you do is going to solve the problem outside of component replacement. Call MS and go through the steps to have your xbox serviced. It takes awhile, but its usually free, and usually results in the system working better overall.

Have you tried blowing on it yet? Or maybe turning it off and on?

Just kidding. I would like to know some more info first, if it's an original then you're most likely gonna have to replace it, if it's a slim there's more than likely some attachment you can put on.

I'm no electrical expert but you could try running an very simple 2D game (or maybe just leave it on the dashboard) so you aren't taxing your CPU / GPU, if it doesn't overheat like a modern 3D game then it might point towards your CPU / GPU as the problem.

I would guess you have an original 360, the slim is supposed to have a temp sensor that automatically switches off the machine to prevent this sort of thing.

Which Generation of XBox?, where are you keeping it?

It might be an old unit that's had it.

And if all else fails,

Then throw out your Wii and get a PC.

My solution would be to buy a new xbox, they're pretty cheap these days.

Reported for what, making a viable suggestion?

OT: Get a PC :3

It gives me the Half-Ring which usually indicates it overheating.

Sounds like the thermal paste on the processor has gone like concrete, it's a simple fix dude check out this video.

The cleaning solution you will have to buy, thermal paste just ask one of your friends that builds PC's chances are they got some kicking around if not it's cheap as ass also.

I have fixed a lot of friends overheating xboxs just by replacing the thermal paste on the processors ;)

If nothing else works and you're willing to take a risk, just put a bunch of ice into a ziplock bag and put that bag in another bag and make sure it doesn't leak and lay it on top of the xbox making sure you don't block the air intake, should work until the ice has melted.

Could always take it to a repair shop and they might be able to fix it up...or better yet, if you've still got the warranty, get in contact with Microsoft.
If that fails, just get a new one I guess. They're rapidly becoming cheaper and cheaper, wheyhey.

I would ask where you're keeping it because some entertainment systems with little compartments for consoles are god awful heat traps.
