HAHHAHHAAHAHA!
I've seen conflicting reports about this, including a claim that people are faking it by blowing smoke into the unit using vape pens.

Looking at that twitter handle tho, take with grains of salt. Either way, if Series X does have problems with thermals, no doubt that will become clear over the next weeks/months. One would expect it to have safeties that would shut the unit down long before it ever gets hot enough to start smoking, but, you know, it's Microsoft. They've been known to cheap out on various hardware components in the past.

Reminds me of a case of a PS5 overheating at a Best Buy display for real

But that was cuz those geniuses put it in a fully enclosed and unventilated plexyglass box. And of course, it does have a safety, which did kick in.

Yeah but there are other videosof the xbox disc drive being crazy too. Not accepting the disc, or making ugly clicking noises as it tries to figure out what the disc inside of it is.

It's probably rare, and not a big issue with most people.

Angry Centuar Gaming reported that his review PS5 died. So far he is the only one to report PS5 issues that I'm aware of, and who knows what he did with the system to cause it.

I just thought it was funny, because Xbox's have had cooling issues since the original system.

C'est la vie, I guess. New consoles always have their fair share of teething problems. For a year or two perhaps. By then both will probably release a newer model with their insides reshuffled a little to fix that. Maybe bigger storage too. Maybe introduce new issues too.

I just like having something to laugh at. There hasn't been enough laughter this year imo.

Slot loading drives on sealed consoles were a fucking awful idea.

Never had a problem with them since PS3. Trays usually feel flimsy and don’t seat the discs very well, whether it’s a console drive, Blu-ray player or PC disc bays. I’ve also had issues with a couple of them having problems loading and/or closing properly. Samsung too, which is still typically a pretty good brand.

I’ve always felt that tray loaders were more reliable: especially for PC there was always the option to use a pin or paper clip to manually activate the mechanism and pull it out if there was an issue. Mind, for them to be as ubiquitous as they are now they must have the reliability down to a science.

Part of the problem is that at first there could be no problems, but as time goes on, and the hardware degrades there could be problems down the road.

PC isn't a solution either, it's more expensive, and at my local micro center, you need to pay a hundred fifty dollars just to get someone to build you a PC. Also, the RTX 3080 also has problems;

.........The Fuck does any of this have to do with my archaic preference for a disc drive that’s tray loaded as opposed to a lot loaded?

Just build it yourself?

Given how modular and standardized pc hardware has become, it's really not hard anymore. My current pc was the first I ever built myself and I managed on my first try over the course of an afternoon, and I'm not a handyman. Like, if you can handle a screwdriver you basically have all the technical skills required. Everything else you can learn from guides, from picking components, to installing them, to troubleshooting if things go wrong. And if that's not enough, there's loads of people online willing to help you. Also, watching a self-built rig boot for the first time is very satisfying.

I mean, you don't have to, but if thinking it's too technically difficult is the thing holding you back, don't sweat it, I'm pretty sure you totally can and it's a fun experience.
