So, my Xbox 360 has apparently decided to go on strike. I can think of no other reason why it won't read disks. I've tried all of my disks, all kept in good condition, and no luck.

Anyone else experience this? It just sits at Xbox Dashboard, does the "Reading.." stage then goes right back to open tray.

I'm tempted to call customer service later today when they open but i've heard bad things about it. Like for example being connected to people with only the vaguest idea of the English language.

I actually heard a story about a guy who spent over a half hour just trying to make the person on the other end understand that he wanted to cancel his Xbox Live account.

Tell them you can't understand them and you want to talk to someone who speaks English as their native language. I work in a place where our customer service is in India, trust me, they are more than happy to pass you off to someone if it will end their call. They may not give you the exact right phone number, but at least it will be someone who's not in India, Guatemala, or Indonesia, and you'll get to someone who speaks English. Goddamm I hate having customer service in India, I've spent many an hour wrestling with them over the simplest of things because "It's not my job" when I know that it is completely within their job description and training. I've never had any problems with my Xbox Elite, around 2 years old now, but I can sympathize with being frustrated with outsourced customer service. I still can't fathom how companies can see it profitable to outsource it to India when they still have to compensate all their American associates for their time spent correcting all the mistakes made due to language barriers, and sheer laziness. Bah.

Could be a number of things. Was this a problem that got gradually worse, or did it happen suddenly? If the former, you might just need to (carefully!) clean the lens in the Xbox.
