So yeah I checked the news today and apparently some guy is suing microsoft for chargeing his credit card twice for an xbox live gold membership as this is a violation of the Electronic Funds Transfer act and apparently other live members have had their cards charged without authorization. So what do you people think? Will this lawsuit make xbox live a free service or is microsoft just going to keep taking our money and increase the price?

It's Microsoft. Much as I'd like to say that'd happen, it won't. The guy is most likely gonna get ripped apart in court because he's facing lawyers that will be bought by Microsoft...who...isn't exactly short on money.

The option where their stock rise.
Charging more for the same product.

I'm pretty sure this guy doesn't have a case. When you sign up you need to accept terms and conditions and in those are legalish words that amount to

"unless you tell us to fuck off this is a subscription service that will continue to be charged to your credit card until you cancel the subscription"

So, nah, I don't think fuck all will change. Maybe it'll be more obvious to those signing up from now on.

xbl won't ever be free now. what is funny is that psn has complete cloud saving available for free. what xbl still has over psn (due to m$ copyrights) is party chat. le sigh

Oh God no. Bill Gates will put his own shit through a juicer and drink it before he makes Xbox Live free. Now if this keeps happening and it truly does has nothing to do with human error on the part of consumers, Microsoft may have some criminal charges to answer for. Unless they want to start fighting off charges of fraud or theft they had better get this "problem" fixed.

He will either go to court and get handed, or they will probably just settle and sweep it under the rug like most companies do these days. It won't make Live free, nor it really change anything about the XBOX service.

It's not they charged him twice. They charged him once for his new live subscription and then back charged him for the time he didn't have Live since he let his account expire.. They charged him for close to two years of no Live membership.

He has a case and he will win, and because it is a class action lawsuit, anyone who has had this happen to them will get a cut of the eventual payout.

It won't do anything to the price of Live.

What's illegal is that they charged a different card from the one he authorized for that.
Oh, I see. I guess a link in the OP could have helped to avoid this confusion.

I may need to edit my post if I get enough people correcting me :(.
