Note: At the time of typing this, I searched the forums and I checked the news section, nothing mentioned this yet.

OH HELL YES. At least now they can move on without everyone flaming them for being an FPS in the XCom franchise.

What are opinions?

I remember Spoony having an absolute shitfit seeing that footage for the first time screaming "BETRAYAL!" a while ago.

This is good.
Even looking at the new, more "action-y" X-Com, this is still a massive shift and would probably have sucked. Now, it may still suck, but at least it won't be because "IT'S DIFFERENT GAHASAAF"

It even got its own song :D

OT: Meh, I'm OK with it. I don't really know much about the game, aside from it being a shooter and also not being much of an XCOM game, so I guess it fits.

Nolonger even necessary. New spin-offs aren't frowned upon as long as the main series are in the pipeline.

I don't see it has a bad thing, but why do they need to call it XCom? Why don't they just give it a new name, I think in the current gaming market a new IP will be looked upon favorably compared to just slapping a name on.

This game is starting to smells of a really old corpse, possibly the next DNF debacle waiting to happen.
8 years in development already, passed down from who knows how many studios, they have no fucking clue what the end goal is, and now it's being reworked again... just bury this ************ and spare yourself the shame.

Keep the geometrical enemies, please! That is literally the only reason I would play this game.

This smells like 2K realizing they're sitting on assets and code for a game that's sitting in limbo, and assuming that because Enemy Unknown made bank, then there's a place in the sky for a weird "Road to Hill 30"-esque take on a strategy franchise.

I mean, there might be one; I remember being somewhat interested in the initial XCOM E3 demo. Does it represent what XCOM is all about, though? Nope. The first-person project is yet another victim of publishers thinking that everything that sells is first-person by necessity.

This is good, IMO.

They can now be as creative as they want with the aliens without having to adhere to the series ... er 'lore', as little as there was.

I think its great. The basis to make it its own thing is enhanced with commercial success of enemy unknown, so why make the universe weird with a 1960s based invasion retcon of xcom?

The aliens and their tech appeared so different in the demos I saw, that its not a stretch to simply change the title.

The buereuau (i never could spell buereaureu) sound much better than X-Com: Forget about all the other ones this ones in the 60's LOL

However, they've fuckin' blown it by not simply naming the game "Bluebook."
