This will not end well for the developers...best to just cancel now.

Is anyone here actually looking forward to this? (honest question)

As someone who has NEVER played the X-COM games before, I AM! And I'll be damned fucking pissed off if this game gets canceled! I've read up about this game and how it works and it sounds fucking AWESOME! Fuck all the fans who have their panties in a twist just because they're not getting what they wanted! (Okay well NOW they are but not when this game was first announced) we NEED more games like this. I love the whole 1950's setting with some form of monster invasion or another.

I'm so fucking pissed off by this, I wonder where I can send a letter to the people making this game to encourage them.

I have never seen any user comment on this game that wasn't spiteful doomsaying. Considering what they did to Syndicate, not entirely unwarrented for. (Although I'm pretty sure Syndicate But Not The Old One did help Syndicate Yes The Old One get released at GoG.com. Go check it out, did you know the game has sound? I didn't!)

I'm also thinking they're just waiting for the release of XCOM: Enemy Unknown so that old fans get the sequel they deserve, while at the same time reviving interest in the franchise. This will definitely help to attenuate any backlash against the change in genre.

Frankly I thought the game sounded cool. The setting is great for an alien invasion themed game. It was also kind of Mass Effect influenced in the tactical way you used your squad's abilities which was nice. It did seem a little light on a definite direction though and some of the combat looked a little clutzy. That's fine for ME which has story (ahem) and RPG noodling to fill the gaps but for a pure shooter not so much.

If they are smart they will never let it see the light of day ever again. Atleast not without a completely different name on it.

I'd be quite happy to see the shooter XCom getting canned.

But you know what's the funny thing? If they'd named it anything else, no one would have cared in the least. And they could have. BioEffect the Ripoffening wouldn't have garnered as much ire and it still would have spelled out for gamers what this game actually is.

I was. I wasn't super-hyped for it or anything, but the idea of setting a prequel in a different genre is interesting, and I really dig the visual style. There's absolutely nothing that says it can't be a good game and a worthwhile addition to the franchise just because it doesn't slavishly follow the X-Com formula.

(That said, I, like a lot of others, find it easier to be generous about the shooter now that Enemy Unknown is in the works.)

Haha, I was on the betrayal bandwagon for this one... right up until they announced Enemy Unknown.

Now I am kinda sad it's getting delayed, I'm guessing they have a fair chunk invested in this, given they didn't outright cancel it. So maybe they think its salvageable, honestly, now I'm interested in seeing what they can do with it.

I don't get why XCOM fans are still hating on a game that isn't going to interfere with the game they want. Am I mistaken in thinking that both games are being made by the same people? I mean, if XCOM is great, and they are releasing a game you are looking forward to, what is it about the other game they are developing that says blatantly that it will fail? From the previews, it looked polished and smooth in graphics and gameplay. (It was a gameplay demo, right?) It certainly didn't look like the same kind of FPS as the big money-makers of today. It looked like a really stylish Rainbow 6 Vegas with crazy robot aliens opening interdimensional portals into Pleasantville. What part of that sounds bad?

I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried "who cares!"

I mean... Was someone even waiting for this shooter? I'm sincerely more interested in the strategy sequel.

I played both UFO and TFTD and still do play them, and this game looked good

I doubt it is canceled, but I do wonder if all the hate has something to do with it. Is there a rework going on? But like everyone else, I don't really care. I am more than happy to pre-order XCOM: Enemy Unknown.
