The name is already taken so you add an 'x'. But you also want it to be semetrical (for some) so you add another 'x' at the end of the wanted name.

I never checked for an original HazyShadows, I was just eager to join. Thats why I did it.

And OP: I could ask you the same thing. Why did you put numbers on the end of your name?
Not the OP but my number comes cause this was the first name account I did on the internet something like 10 years ago.
I needed a number and 8 ended up being the one I pressed.

Old internet name is old.

I have seen people with "xx(Insert Name Here)xx" usernames all over the internet, but I've never understood the significance of it. I've tried google, several "answer" sites, and an escapist forum search (just incase this has been done before), but came up with no explanations, definitions, or even hints at the reason behind the xx's before and after certain user names. So, I ask you, my fellow escapists, why do people put "xx" before and after their usernames?

(If this topic has been done before, please link)
I Use xXGeckoXx because i could not get Gecko and it is a great way of avoiding numbers.

because xs are pretty, it's like decorating your name.

It's mostly beacause the name is already taken, but what I don't understand is why they don't think of an original one. (like me)

It's quite alright if it symbolizes something. Hell, it's alright regardless. It's a name, not a resume. And I don't think people should be judged like they are, unless your name is something like: "LOLAxeMurdera4lyfe12125" Just stay away from them..
It just seemed like the OP was calling out people with X's, so I wanted to ask him the same question.

cos the names taken...
oh shit
i'm at XxxX user level now
So adding a multitiude of numbers to a name is all well and good, but suddenly it's a party foul when the X's join the club?
most XxxX or xXXx names were made without checking if there was an original name
my numbers are only with me because Wolfy's almost always used

I think the xx is just used to fill in spots to get the name desired, for instance, almost every website in the world has atleast one Batman user, so if you want the name batman aswell, you put xxbatmanxx

If you're set on a name, and it's taken, why not decorate it up? I mean, personaly, I dislike having to read names with such a level of inlegibility, but I can't blame them for desiring a particular name. However, I tend to respect players with unique names more.

Yeah, I can vouch for that :D
And that wasn't an insult to the people with numbers, twas just a defense for the X's.

Exactly.

This is my main gamertag name, but well into the life of XBox Live, I still managed to create accounts with the gamertags 'Chaingun Monster' and 'Furious Troll'.

There are loads of original tags out there to be had.........I detest all this xX Bull5h1t Xx.

Mine is my gamertag too, and 'Private Custard' is awesome, by the way.

Not exactly.
I put the x on the end of my name because when I first signed up for an email, megapenguin was already taken. I stayed with this name because I felt it would be one no one would ever have.

Cheers!

I originally wanted General Custard, but it was unavailable, so I worked down through the ranks until I came up with this. Now I'm the same username everywhere!

the reason they use xxNAMExx is cause some one else came up with an idea first, and so instead of coming up with something truly original, they make their username harder to remember and unphonexly(sp/notrealword) pronounceable, but oh well. Well I guess you could go by Kssk Kssk Bob Kskk Kskk if you like..
