I'm sure a good handful of you are already rolling your eyes at me for making another bloated topic, focused on the powerhouse game critique that is Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw, who seems to overpower any and all other content of The Escapist, regardless of effort put into said "non-Yahtzee" content. But hear me out... or read me out... or don't...
So, Ben got allot of surprising (yet unsurprising) negative feedback on his 'Assassin's Creed 2' review for his voice sounding different. True, I noticed it as well and was taken a bit off guard, but I wasn't one of those idiots sending waves of insane conspiracy theories, nor did I jump to any radical conclusions. Cutting to the point, the only thing that made me truly go "Zuh?" was the escapist's tiny url being changed from the top of the video, to the lower left corner of the video, then bloated to twice it's former size.
MY(stupid)THEORY: When one thing is different from the norm, I think it has the ability to rolls off the fan-base's backs more easily. But changing more then one thing can cause something in the common fan-boy brain to snap and latch onto the most out of place thing and start chanting "Attica"
But the true reason I made this topic is...
Why the hell did they even feel the need to change the url's placement? Yes, The Escapist has a pretty new logo for their uppercase E, well done. But up until that review, it was just "escapistmagazine.com" in readable white letters up on the top of the videos, in the center, where it was out of the way and barely noticeable. It served it's purpose beautifully, without interfering with the visuals. Now it's in big, bold, unreadable, transparent letters, which to be fair, really isn't in the middle of anything important, but it's definitely noticeable now, despite being see-through. It seemed entirely unnecessary, especially with Zero Punctuation being exclusive to this website anyways.
So all I gotta say is... What Up With That? - http://www.hulu.com/watch/102975/saturday-night-live-what-up-with-that
(I can actually hear the groans as a result of my weak popular reference)
DISCLAIMER: Latching onto and discussing only a single grammatical error and/or inaccurate observation will most likely result in me throwing a hissy fit over the reader having missed the entire point of my bloated thread, as well as make me question why I bother putting so much thought into such a meaningless topic. And no, of course I don't expect them to change it back to the way it was before.
Thanks for reading, hope you enjoyed it.
I look forward to (some of) your replies!
