I'm also British, what's your point?
What? Can't I reference someones nationality without there being a point? Since when did "Just saying" stop meaning "JUST SAYING"? I too am British.

All I'm saying is that people should stop saying Yahtzee's so original, when he's 'inspired' by someone else.
Listen kid, nobody who's been here for more than a week talks about Yathzee as being an internet comedy genius. He's just a funny guy, that's all.

That, and I've never heard anyone call him "original".

YES, ALL I NEED TO DO IS GO TO LEEDS AND GET A PARANOIA-INDUCINGLY CHEAP TRAIN DOWN TO LONDON AND THEN A "OH, THATS WHAT MY PARANOIA WAS"-INGLY EXPENSIVE TRAIN TICKET BACK! WHY THE CAPITALS? I DONT KOW, BUT WE ARE IN THE OF-TOPIC FORUM SO WE ARE ALLOWED (PRESUMABLY) TO GO OFF-TOPIC. :D
Why go to London if you're in Leeds? I'm in Leeds right now at the university and the clubs here are wayyyyyy better, and half my flatmates are from London and they agree :D

EDIT: For the sake of being on-topic, I agree with Darth Mobius...

Wasn't sure where I should put this, so I just shoved it here.

Everyone always seems to be talking about how clever Yahzee is, and how amazingly original he is with his review style, but it seems to me he's just Charlie Brooker with a hat. Now, while I've never seen Brooker's game reviews, I can only assumed he uses the same sort of technique as he does in his reviews of television shows in the hilarious Screen Wipe. Sarcastic commentary, usually picking up on the bad points and making obscure comparisons with outlandish images. Sound familiar to you?

For those of you unfamiliar with Charlie Brooker: http://www.youtube.com/user/xthemusic
no its not similar at all...and i'm a fan of charlie and yahtzee.....

Makes me think of the Canada on Strike episode of South Park where they get worthless internet money instead of real money. Ben "Yahtzee" Crenshaw get's paid to make mean, sarcastic and hilarious reviews of videogames for the Escapist. Even he admits he doesn't want to do Zero Punctuation forever and let alone be the only thing he is famous for.

That's worse. The middle is Birmingham which is my hometown and the places there are even worse. There's a couple of half decent bars on Broad Street (mainly just Yates's and Walkabout) and that's all.

Nothing's original these days.

Yahtzee ripped off the idea of being funny, and applied it to video game reviews.

The horror.

He's the reason most of the Escapist is here today, and he's damned funny in his own right.

Also: After watching a full Newswipe from Charlie Brooker... He's pretty damn funny too! Their comedic styles of sarcasm and anger aren't patented, exclusive ideas, but they're great at what they do.

I'm pretty sure Charlie Brooker doesn't do game reviews as I have never seen him do any.

EDIT: Seems I'm wrong. Oh well, live and learn...

I can see why you would think that about Yahtzee but some aspects of their style is different. One of Yahtzee's main characteristics is talking really fast and cramming as many syllables into a time limit as possible, keeping people on edge and having sudden build ups of humour as a reslut, whilst Charlie Brooker does the opposite, allowing people time to take in each joke.

There are other characteristics that differ but just because they do mainly negative rants in a sarcastic and cynical style doesn't make them the same and doesn't make Yahtzee a copy of Charlie Brooker.

Comedy has been around so much these days it's impossible to create an entirely original style, as there will be influence from other comedians. He was actually what brought me to the escapist and it was then March Mayhem that made me join (Not voting for Turbine though).

Well on the main point of the argument 'everyone should stop saying hes so original, I haven't really seen anyone on here saying that, usually in the comments on his videos its jsut the usual 'Funny as ever' or so true etc etc.

I agree with Zombie Fish, Yahtzee is the main reason i'm on here, but I wasn't a fan of march mayhem, it brought out the worst time of fanboy/fangirlism in some people, and brought people to the forums purely to vote, but i'm not going to single out one company because i'm sure their all guilty and when they look at me none of them sees a friend, just a walking cash machine.

What? It is a joke about Yorkshire, we arent actually prejudiced but for some reason we are sterotyped as such.

Does Brooker review videogames, speak as fast, decidedly, clearly or as furiously, or has half the reputation (at least here in the escapist) as our old anglo-australian hat wearer?

Moving on, people.
