Released late in the life of the ps2 Yakuza, despite aging hardware, boasted awesome streets-of-rage-style beatdown gameplay, a fantastic (if bizarely acted. Who the fuck chose Mark Hamil?) story that lasted quite a while, and one of the most alive and vibrant virtual cities I've ever seen. The streets of Tokyo in Yakuza were literally swarming with people and it had enough random encounters and talkative NPC's to make GTA4 look like an abandoned wasteland.
There was, I think, a ps3 sequel set way back in feudal japan. Sadly it didn't get a release outside of Japan but the more direct sequel 'Yakuza 2' came out on the ps2 on the 9th of september and got about as much attention as you'd expect a ps2 game to get in 08. Has anyone played it yet? And has anyone experienced the hidden gem that was the original?
