Ok so, I'm totally clueless on cosplay stuff, and never heard of Yaya Han until I saw 2 different articles about her today on this site.

That video made a vague reference to some "reality tv show that will not be named *significant cough*" while showing a blank picture slot.

What was this referring to? I have zero idea what controversy she was obviously alluding to, because that reference assumes I know/follow Yaya Han's career, which I don't.

What happened that she's referring to?

This thread isn't about debating the pros/cons of what Yaya Han, and other professional cosplayers do, as I don't have any issues with what they do or why. I just would like to have some context to that incredibly vague reference in the video about the woman.

EDIT:
I got my answer.

So... Is your google [http://lmgtfy.com/?q=yaya+han+reality+show] not working?

I mean, I knew as much, if not less, about Yaya Han as you when I say the 2 articles. However, a quick search comes back with Syfy show Heroes of Cosplay. And, according to the wiki...
Heroes of Cosplay was criticized by some for allegedly grossly misrepresenting cosplay,[5] humiliating and frustrating the cosplayers who were not part of the show's cast but were attending competitions at the series' featured conventions,[6] and hurting the community.[7] According to Zac Bertschy of Anime News Network, the show is "just a really terrible, manipulative, mean-spirited reality TV series that completely misrepresents the entire hobby and craft of cosplaying, makes cosplayers look like a bunch of backstabbing harpies and generally does a disservice to the already widely-misunderstood world of people who just like making costumes and showing them off at silly nerd conventions."[8]

At first I thought the video was probably alluding to King of the Nerds, a reality TV show which Wikipedia tells me "features nerds and geeks with diverse backgrounds and interests competing in various challenges for a cash prize of US$100,000" and in which Yaya Han is a recurring judge, this year next to the likes of Tara Strong and Billy Boyd. Google-fu reveals no specific controversy that isn't commonplace to the forums of reality TV, which pit viewers to discuss who should've totally won.

There is also Heroes of Cosplay, in which costumed contestants compete for the title. Yaya Han's in it, and apparently she's criticized Jessica Nigri (she of BioShock fame) for championing sexuality over talent. It was one of those instances of made-up non-issues that plague reality TV. There's a harsh statement made, the music wells up, there're a few dramatic close-ups, somebody steps in to say otherwise, and then both people have personal asides with the camera crew as they apologize for what's about to happen but gosh darnit if they won't speak their mind.

I think what Liana means by "controversies" - going by the series of images she chose to underline the remark - is that, quite simply, Yaya Han is very comfortable with her body and does what she pleases with it.

My google works just fine, I am however at work, and trying to look up that woman would be risky at best, considering what her portfolio would probably bring up image wise. I wasn't even watching the video she did that I referenced, I just had it minimized. I ask because she seemed to be speaking to one very specific issue, otherwise she wouldn't have done that controversial "cough" thing, implying there was some drama involved.

Seems to have answered my question though.

Still SafeSearch is an option on google if you're worried about NSFW results.
