Yes, it's true, a CGI remake of the 1968 movie is scheduled for 2012.

I wonder, is the yellow submarine going to look like the one in The Beatles Rock Band? Hmmm.

The original movie starred the Beatles, obviously, saving Pepperland from blue meanies. It's only as ridiculous as it sounds. The movie included many of their previous songs, most notably Yellow Submarine and Eleanor Rigby, but it also introduced the songs 'All Together Now' and 'Hey Bulldog' which remain some of their most famous songs.

So blue meanies are trying to get rid of all the music in Pepperland, but one brave man goes to Liverpool with the Yellow Submarine and finds Paul, John, Ringo and George. The movie, is as weird as 'I Am The Walrus', but is still a fun flick.

Why remake it? Well, I'm 12 and the only one I know within 60 miles of my house who's seen it. CGI is where everything is going these days, and I actually wish that it were in live action.

What do you think? Do you like the original? Or curse it's existence? Do you want to see the remake?

I love the original, there's no reason for a remake. But everything else is being remade, so I shouldn't be surprised. I wish they wouldn't, though.

I haven't seen it for years, but IIRC, the Beatles weren't actually in it.

Remakes, by and large, don't do justice to the original. But CGI could lead to this being the trippiest thing outside of a Pink Floyd album pre-Animals.

I haven't seen the original, but I'm difinitely trying to hunt it down somewhere.
Provided somewhere isn't via Amazon.com and at a price an extortionist would blush at.

I would love to see a remake, but that being said I still need to see the original to really back up that statement. But for now.... that's where I'll put feet.

This is going be...terrible. I called it, it's out there, I'm sure of it. It's going to be awful.

This may not be as big a bomb as the "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" movie... but I get the feeling it won't be for lack of trying. Which is a shame, because I honestly believe that, in the right hands, the whole Yellow Submarine concept brought to CGI could be a trippy and entertaining experience.

As an aside... have movie studios completely run out of new ideas?

Huge Beatles fan. I got a bad feeling, it'll be hard if not impossible to top the original. Not to mention the fact that it introduced a lot of art styles and things that were new and shiny and tricky and got copied off of in similar animation of the time.
I understand that some of the random background monsters were actually inspired by Lennon, but beyond that, they had little to do with it as they figured it would be more of the same cheesey cartoon series.
I just hope George Lucas isn't involved.
