I recently read that with every copy of Killzone 3 you get a code for the SOCOM 4 beta. This is great considering its coming in around April we'll get to see how much SOCOM has deviated from the awesomeness it was in the PS2 glory days. This is especially great for me since I preodered KZ3 long ago. :D

Damn it, I have no interest in Killzone.

Can't wait for the crash and burn? I can respect that.
SOCOM4 is like the last chance of a good hardcore TPS this gen outside of the great Metal Gear Online, which I've been playing for over 2 and a half years since there hasn't been a better online shooter released since.

I just played the demo of KZ2 and didn't care for it at all. Plus, Killzone feels like one of those generic sci-fi shooters with pretty graphics.

1. How many generic sci fi shooters are out there?

2. Killzone is far from generic due to the fact that it plays nothing like ANY other FPS on the market. The guns feel like they have weight and the and the character reflects that. Other games don't necessarily have this feeling.

3. The multiplayer is the most engaging I've ever played. Due to the fact that you get more exp from completing objectives, your teammates actually try to win and unlike most games I know, winning gives you 1.5x the exp that you got during the game. Did I mention that games (even ranked ones) are fully customizable by the community? The online portion uses custom lobbies so you can always play the games that you want to play and even create your own. Its one of the few games that have classes that each have their own abilities and perks and each add to their teams in a different way.

4. The third one has *fixed* the weightyness to a degree that its still there but is fluid enough that you'll gt used to it more easily than in KZ2. (Watch KZ3 beta gameplay and commentaries)

5. The third game focuses more on the backstory of the KZ universe, with many more cutscenes and fleshed out dialogue than KZ2.

6. It has purtty graphics...

You forgot something, that little "chirp" when you kill someone.
Its just so satisfying.

I hope its in Killzone 3...

OT: Never really cared about SOCOM myself, but I have friends who will crap their pants upon hearing this news.

I tried to not stay hyped for this game. Then I saw that trailer.
Why do the Helghast have to be so interesting? I thought they were just supposed to be freaking space-nazi's. The haters never mentioned the backstory. The pricks.

Just from the Killzone 2 demo I played, I was not at all immersed in the world or characters. I'm guessing Killzone has one of those stories that tries to be epic but isn't nearly as good as it thinks it is like Halo. The shooting just felt off, it wasn't the weighty-ness, it just felt like I was aiming at enemies and just not hitting them. I noticed the weighty-ness but it felt too weighty, an AR or SMG isn't that heavy. I turned up the camera sensitivity all the way up and it still felt slow, and I'm not one of those people that maxes out the camera sensitivity in FPSs.

I do agree that most FPSs suck this gen (as they have actually devolved) and I've only played COD4 out of all the games to come from the big FPS franchises. The COD multiplayer is just serviceable at best, I don't see why people play it so much. I've heard good things about KZ2 online and it's probably better than COD but that's not really that difficult IMO.

My favorite online FPS this gen is MAG by a long shot, another game that rewards winning and punishes campers. Campers in MAG hurt their team a lot because campers aren't helping the team win in anyway.

I love games that have a lobby system as Metal Gear Online (MGO) is the best online shooter this gen IMO. It has rooms and once you find a good room, you're set. I really hate matchmaking because it can't create level matches because barely any game has a level system that reflects skill, you can be like level 100 prestige and suck at COD. Even if you have a good group of friends to play COD, it's still not fun because you party up and then face randoms in matchmaking since matchmaking puts the party on the same team, and a good team will almost always beat a group of randoms. MAG doesn't have lobbies because the high number of players per match. If you could create a room, it'll probably take a decent amount of time to fill up.

MGO also has a level system that reflects skill, a level 16 team will almost always beat a level 15 team, that's how much skill difference is between just a single level.

FPSs really don't interest me that much because I really don't care for the 1st-person perspective. I much prefer TPSs and SOCOM4 is pretty much my last hope in finding an online shooter to replace MGO, I could always go back to Warhawk I guess (another game with rooms).

I realize Killzone is better than the COD junk but it has never really grabbed me.
