Higurashi no Naku Koro ni (When they Cry): Unsurprisingly [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/groups/view/Higurashi-no-Naku-Koro-ni] my personal favourite so far. The first season is some of the finest psychological - and physical - horror mysteries ever created, and while the second season drops much of the horror in favour of the now more action oriented mystery approach, I still quite liked it. It has a conclusive ending as well, if you stay with it to the second season.

Spice & Wolf: A very close second. Definitely a niche animé though. The whole setting around medieval economics actually intrigue me, and the characters and their interaction is flat out incredible. The artwork is beautiful, and the pace is slow and thoughtful, favouring thorough - even semi-academic - exposition of what goes on and what immediate effects it'll have, all the while with the effects on the personal relationship as a hidden undercurrent, visible only in glances and expressions. And I even enjoyed the romantic comedy aspects of it, which would usually weigh heavily against any series in my book. Two seasons so far.

Baccano!: A uniquely fragmented gangster drama with several genres mixed in; comedic moments blend with horror mystery aspects, and relentless brutality with simpleminded innocence. The ending - before the epilogue episodes - is priceless.

Monster: A fine noir thriller, set in Eastern Germany before and after the fall of the Berlin wall.

Elfen Lied: A very emotional drama despite the ultra-violence and very dark themes. Ambiguous ending for the Anime though.

Excel Saga: An anime parody show far too bizarre to not see and enjoy. Can easily be watched multiple times, as 4 words a second dialogue regarding absurd storylines will ensure that most will be missed the first time around.

Code Geass has a good ending.
It's basically death note if Ryuk was a green haired hot chick forced to live in your bedroom.
Also, school girls and robot battles.

Go watch Black/Rock Shooter. It has awesome character designs, some very surreal moments [BRS' world] and the animation and fight scenes rock! The story is kind of average but the way that it is told is pretty special. It's one of my favorites.

Heres a great idea: Use the search bar and search for the term "Anime". Then once you've looked through all the other threads like this you'll see that everyone always says the same things.

Thats funny, cos when I flicked through it to see what it was like it seemed that 90% of it was set in a school. That coupled with the fact everyone was calling it the biggest disappointment of the season was the reason I decided not to watch it after all.

Now and Then, Here and there

I know your anime is sad, and imma let you finish, but Now and then, Here and there is the saddest anime of all time. OF ALL TIME!

Heroman

If your expecting an epic storyline filled with memorable characters and a mind-blowing plot twist, then this is not your anime. If however, you were alive during the 80s and want to keep those memories alive, this will be a gude nostalgia induced trip for you. Like I said before, its story and characters aren't very good, but the animation is high quailty and the action scenes seem to have big budgets.

Arakawa Under the bridge

This is the season's Hare+Guu. Funny, over the top, quirky, and with a few poetic messages here and their.

Katekyo Hitman Reborn

The story isn't all that good in my opinion. But it has awesome concepts and the charatcers are preety funny. Also, if your a girl, there will be ALOT of fanservice for you. Its mostly shonen though...so expect it to go over the 100 episode marked...make that 200 as of lte.

One Piece

I know it may look stupid...the number of episodes will put you off, but you MUST watch it. The funniest/awesomest/saddest anime in a while. If you watch the anime, the first few episodes seem boring. Keep going until you make it to the Arlong Park Arc. That is practically when I fell in love with the show.

Eureka 7

A sci-fi/mecha/uber mind fuck of a manga. It has an animation style unto its own, and thecharacters, though plentiful do get a bit of character development/. Its also 51 episodes long, so it won't overwhelm you too much.

Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood

Its the seocnd FMA anime and it takes after the manga.its pretty good, but it can be a bit too lighthearted. I recommend watching it.

Everything you could ask from a show that really understands its fans. (P.S. You forgot all the unnessesary nudity)

If you liked Wing, you'll like Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory a whole lot more. Like, exponentially more.

I'm also going to recommend anything by Hayao Miyazaki (unless you have a problem with liberal propaganda, because that's what it all is, it's just very good liberal propaganda), as well as Kannazuki No Miko (my personal favourite, I'm suprised too). Akira, Appleseed and Baccano are also animes that I would recommend.
