I can't help to feel that my IQ just dropped a little from reading this...Looks like bashing these kinds of things in games is currently a "trend" in "journalism"....

Dead or Alive 5, is a good solid fighting game period.

I don't like the character design, it seems too plain. She needs to wear something more memorable or get a face tattoo of something. She doesn't stand out at all.

Character movesets in BlazBlue are so different that you'd almost think you were playing a completely different game going from Lichi to Hakumen. In theory the Drive button is supposed to smooth the transition, but it's getting to the point that the Drive attacks are so wildly different that the only thing they have in common is that they're mapped to the same button XD

I love it.
BlazBlue confuses the hell out of me.

I like them quite a lot.

But I never know what I'm doing in them.

I agree, this article just seems to be hating on this game for a trivial matter, it's actually a decent and pretty deep fighting game once you get past the boob physics.
The Escapist has gotten extremely obsessed with White Knighting every damn thing. It's super disappointing.

I still love the shows but the articles are getting really monotonous.

I never bothered to get DoA5 because I was underwhelmed by DoA4, skipped 3, so I guess this is as good a time as any to get it.

For me it doesn't matter if it's Flat-Chested Fighter 12 or Gore-Porn Kombat 6.
As long as the game is FUN, and not boring like the Dragon Ball: Evolution types, I'm willing to play it.

O, and, Japan does 'this' better:

AH is a GREAT series, I don't care what you puritans and your 'moral crusaders' think.

All female cast.
Weird boob physics.
Every character is some kind of fetish.

Fun as can be.

So... with this Ninja Gaiden/Dead or Alive shared continuity does this mean we're eventually gonna get some Avengers style game, but with a bunch of busty ninjas?

Anyone else think that we should focus less on the boobies? I think they're just a bouncy distraction from the fact that ironically a company called Team Ninja have been able to make ninjas boring and silly. And they are doing with the boring Kasumi what Capcom has been doing with Ryu: Contriving ways to make an uninteresting character the linchpin of a plot which nobody is invested in.

I'd say that's pretty restrained/realistic by Team Ninja standards.
Then again I only watched the first bit of the video, so I don't know if it gets worse.

In this day and age, I've noticed it's rarer to find a Fighting game that DOESN'T go for multiple releases/versions/upgrades, whatever you wanna call it (not that they don't exist, just they seem to be the minority)

Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Mortal Kombat: Komplete Edition, Street Fighter 4, I'm pretty sure Tekken 6 had one, BlazBlue, etc. etc. now DOA5. I'm also expecting Injustice to be released again within a year or so in a version that will include all these DLC characters that are already being added. And I admit I thought it would've happened by now, but I'm sort of expecting Persona 4 Arena to do the same.

In regards to this...as weird as this may sound, a pretty big part of me would rather Team Ninja just do more Dead or Alive Volleyball games.

At least then if I buy it I'm not lying to myself. I'm not going "Yeah, I'm totally getting this because I'm very invested in Christie's story mode and how she reacts with that dude voiced by Liam O'Brien."

I buy a DOAX game I know exactly why I'm getting it because it's pretty much the only reason I would buy a volleyball game.

I'm not opposed to fanservice being used to sell a game, heck that's why I bought the Poker Night at the Inventory games.

...I'm not saying I would buy a new DOAX game. Just it'd be nice if the option was out there :p

Except, y'know, that's not exactly the way forward, I've got nothing against some eye candy in games, why, Bayonetta is one of my favourite new game leads of recent years, but you shouldn't objectify women which is what Arcana Heart pretty explicitly does, the cast members are their fetish/stereotype and nothing beyond that. Even DoA5 does some effort to make their characters less one dimensional (with mixed results, admittedly, but they did a pretty decent job with newcomer Mila).

Of course, they're free to make such blatantly and shamelessly pandering games, and you're free to enjoy them. But we are also free to point out that they're shamelessly pandering games and that it's kind of creepy that half of the fetish characters are positively underage.

At the same time, it's wise to keep that opinion to yourself when you're just posting a news article announcing the game and keep that opinion until you are writing a more in-depth preview or review, especially if you're going to be as unceremonious about it as Earnest here is.

Keeping in line with what I think is the general theme of the thread, the large breasts don't bother me (okay, they do, but only in movement, not size... seriously, they're like water balloons!). This could be because I've been playing DoA since 2 for the Dreamcast (though DoA3 is a personal favorite), but whatever.

That said... does the series really need yet another ninja? There's already 4 of them as playable characters, and their all some of the best characters! Even worse, they seem to be the only characters with any kind of development. With the exception of those who are directly linked to DoATEC (specifically, Helena Douglas [http://www.creativeuncut.com/gallery-21/art/doa5-helena-douglas.jpg], Lisa Hamilton [http://www.creativeuncut.com/gallery-21/art/doa5-lisa-hamilton.jpg], and a third character who I won't spoil), most of the other characters seem to exist just to fulfill the game's quota of specific character archetypes.

Oh well... at least it's not another "She kicks high." [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Jfzh2s3jlE] commercial. Ugh...

I'm a little confused by your first statement; are you saying that the character models need some toning down, or are you talking about having another female character joining the cast? If the former, I disagree if for no other reason than the characters not looking like plastic action figures anymore. If the latter, eh... no comment.

No argument about Kasumi though. I never got how a main character could be nothing more than a walking plot device. Plus I will never understand for the life of me why DoATEC would use her as their base for a super-soldier and not, say, Bayman. Even more bizarre is that, if I'm comprehending all this properly, Hayabusa is outshined in his own game by the aforementioned walking plot device who was only added to the game because "why the fuck not?". :/

Actually, the characters look very stiff to me. The boobs don't seem that big in this clip. The moving statue thingy is from Ninja Gaiden 2 - I'm surprised that no one said anything about that yet.

A brief correction: the statue is from Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2. The Sigma games are pretty much their own series due to the changes made compared to the "main" games.

Also, not many people are familiar with the Ninja Gaiden games, if you can believe that one.

Number of shits given is less than or equal to zero. The threads about sexism in games have gone on long enough now and Team Ninja is what it is. I don't buy their games because of boobs, I don't buy them because I'm not interested in them. Any game that has boobs in it is now thoroughly offensive, it's become almost farcical at this point.

Funny thing is, give players a character creator with sliders, most of the time the lady's chest slider is as far right as it can go.
What gets me though is that amazingly some game developers don't think of that, if you max a female character's chest slider to the mac in "Star Trek Online" it causes a decent number of clipping issues, especially when she wears extra chestwear like a bandolier or strap. :)

Even by Escapist standards, this article was embarrassing. I mean, I'm all for knocking games for being oversexualized, but I also expect a bit of research done. Or at the very least, not having an article written that is pretty much "lol boobs". I haven't played DOA5, but DOA4 was actually a fairly solid fighting game, if insanely tough. I honestly do think that anyone who says DOA is nothing but fanservice has not actually played any of the games, outside of the volleyball games, which are a whole different story.
