I searched and didn't see a thread for this already in existence, so I apologize if it's already been done.
Now, most of us will admit that we can get REALLY bored sometimes. You know what I mean, it's summer time, you've got no job, no girlfriend/boyfriend, all of your friends are out of town, there's nothing good on tv that you havent already seen a million times, and you've just beaten one of your games for the bazillionth time. So, what do you do? If you're like me, you go down tp either the local game rental place or the local game store. And when you get there, you spend a while looking around, looking for something, anything, that might be interesting. But guess what? You're one badass gamer, and you've already played, and beaten every good game you've ever been told about. So now you've got to find something new. And guess what: most of the game boxes don't really do a good job of explaining the game. You look around for 20, 30+ minutes, and finally you find something, something that is at least slightly interesting.
You get home and pop it into your system of choice. Now, you're not expecting anything great, but, lo and behold, you find the game enjoyable. In fact, the game rocks. You end up spending 20+ hours straight without even contemplating stopping. And you're happy...this game becomes one of your favorites of all time.
So, what I want to know is if any of you have ever played a game without knowing anything beforehand, and with low expectations, and found that you really liked it. Like I said, a game that you PERSONALLY knew nothing about, not necessarily a game that no one else really liked.
For me, it was Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. I had never before played an RPG, and one day I was at Blockbuster and just randomly rented it because I'd already rented pretty much everything else there. I'd never even heard of it, but in the end it became one of my favorite games, and I still occasionally play it.
