Call a supervisor. I'm not about to give out free stuff.

Also, the $? Seriously? Give it a rest, it makes you look like a child.

I'd eat it in front of his eyes, and collect his tears in a jar.
Because of your avatar I can't help but picture Akuma doing that
Akuma has surpassed the need for Mcdonald's. Also I think he'd be more of a KFC guy.

I'd take a break and explain to the kid about under the table jobs that he can do (working at a christmas tree lot, construction, putting fliers on cars etc) to make money. It's what I did as a kid and I ate just fine.

No reason to steal or beg for food unless your lazy...no matter how old you are (well old enough to talk at least).

Give him the bloody burger. It's McDonalds; who'd want to work there anyway...?
How wonderful it must be never to have been in a situation where any job, any job at all, is better than no job.

Also to have never witnessed the lengths of dishonesty people will go to, in order to get something for nothing. Even when they don't truly need it.

I have seen people who actually would dirty up their kid and send it to guilt a worker into giving them free food.

Tell your manager, call the police to come pick him up, pay for the meal yourself if you have to.

And what's with the dorrar sign? Its a business, genius.

Well, not really. You would perform an infraction and it is a legitimate reason for infraction. Hell, telling your boss to go fuck himself is good enough to get fired and a good reason too (Public Indecency).
hehe, i really really hope he haves a microphone hidden somewhere because proving i said that is going to be really hard, and there were mitigating circumstances, the law isn´t absolute, and any Jury would realize that there were forces beyond the "contract" at work here

as i said, easy.

EDIT: I live in México by the way, and i know things will work out in my favor, the laws over here tend to tip over to the workers side, not the company, and it doesn't matter how many regulations the company haves they would lose the moment we got into Jury because there would be like a hundred inspections, regulations and fines they would have to pay, i´m sure they would settle before reaching court.

Pretty sure even Mc Donalds has at will contracts at this point...which means if your boss wants you gone....your gone. Doesn't even need any infractions. The days of needing infractions to fire someone are long gone. Now if you just don't like someone...fire em. Just don't tell em why. Could be for many reasons that are illegal but it doesn't matter because it's at will. Fire someone and refuse to say why and nothing can be done about it.

A young kid (4-5 years) walks into the store. He looks homeless and poor. You´re really on the fence with your boss. One more infraction and you´ll get fired. It´s an infraction to give customers free food, obviously. It´s also an infraction to leave your post FOR ANY REASON. The kid goes forward to you and orders a happy meal.

You ready the meal, but when you give it to him, he doesn´t pay. You take it out of his hands and he begins sobbing quietly. Do you give him the happy meal or not?
I'd give him money. I'd then stop working at McDonald's.

Like many here, I'd ask the kid where his/her parents are to confirm the homeless orphan schtick, then call the police. The foster care system may suck, but it beats the hell out of starving to death. I wouldn't be doing the kid any favors by paying for a single meal. That's just keeping him/her out on the street for another day.

what happens when you get fired, and then you are the one who ends up sobbing because you cant afford a meal? this is the real world, ill look out for myself before i look out for others. now i dont mean to be a dick, but if giving that kid teh meal means i may get fired, im not risking it. like the first poster said, id probably pay for it out of my own pocket.

EDIT: jumping on the "DONT REPLACE S WITH $" bandwagon.

Wouldn't serve him in the first place if it was obvious he was homeless. I'd call like an orphanage or some sort of care worker. They wouldn't let a 4/5 year old kid be homeless. They're not as heartless as oldy-timey movies make them out to be.

I'd probably pay for it myself, as long as that wasn't considered an infraction as well. I don't really know the rules about that at fast-food restaurants, as I've never worked at one myself.
Most likely this, the company can still get their money, but I would feel too bad by not giving that kid the money. And if I was on bad terms with my boss, and was working at Mac's, I wouldn't consider getting fired to be much of a loss.

I feel no sympathy or empathy for people on the streets. I could easily have lost my house and wound up poor on the streets myself, but I prevented that by doing some things I didnt want to do. The last thing im going to do is risk my job or waste my hard earned money on someone who made bad choices, or a kid that somehow is not where they are supposed to be.

As someone who used to work at McDonalds, the order is customer pays, then recives food, not the other way around. Therefore, this situation is invalid.

i'd call the police on him they can handle him and find him a home or something. in fact I really don't know why he would even think he could get it for free or how i can tell he's homeless and poor and not just lying to get a free meal. if he truly is homeless i'll just ask another employee to ask the manager what to do and if he allows it i'll give him the meal and hold him till the authorities get there

I eat the happy meal in front of the kid to show him what its like to be able to afford unhealthy food. Or I leave my work station and throw the little punk out; can't afford MCD's what a hoser. Or I lean over to the little punk and tell him to gtfo and try going someplace healthier because maybe they'll feel bad about little orphen children. And his mother never loved him.

I kid. I pay for it if I am "allowed" to by my boss or I call my boss over and let him/her handle it. If I can't do that the only thing I could do is call child services or something; maybe they can help.
