*insert mandatory Batman speech here*

Uh... probably resign. Too busy right now to moderate this site. If I weren't in college, I'd love to.

Assuming that, I'd probably just chill, and do my job to the best of my ability.

I'd move this thread to the Forum Games section. And then I'd ruthlessly patrol Off Topic for more threads like it and banish them to Forum Games. And I'd also ban a certain annoying user in R&P.

Define the "don't be a jerk" rule, better.

As it stands, I can say that all people born as ________ are inhuman vermin we should eliminate, and that's my opinion. If someone gets upset at me about it, they had better watch what they say, calling me out risks getting personal.

Cain is the only one here that I know wouldn't abuse the fuck out of it.

The rest of you, you'd cracked under the presser and fall to corruption. That power is too great.

I myself would probably only use it on blatant shit.

I would petition the site owners to change the code of conduct so that all trolls are forced to display a troll badge as their fifth escapist badge. Escapists on average aren't that good at spotting trolls compared to other forums - if a troll doesn't wear a badge, instaban.

Asides from that I'd just leave it pretty much like it is, and if something gets a lot of reports, I'd assess how bad it was. I'd be very tempted to ban a few users I personally don't like, but wouldn't, as when that happens to a forum it just gets ruined.

I'd probably just... do mod stuff.
Enforce the rules ext.

I might be tempted a few times to screw with people's minds,
but all in the name of good fun.

There would definitely being people who would need to either shape up or get out. I'm not a power hungry person, nor am I power mad when I get it, but there are people I think aren't... shall we say, furthering the discussion in a constructive way.

It's not that people can't spot it. It's that if they say it they end up being the ones who get moderated and the troll is successful.
Hundred times this. I understand the rule and why it's in place but it's abused in my eyes. Too many subtle insults being thrown around in threads, random tangents and nit picking for the sake of nit picking that does nothing to further discussions.

Half the users would be sent packing. Just like that *snaps fingers*

I would also use my new powers to track down the people who follow up a short reply with "this here just to increase post length so I don't get modwratthed for low content". Oh yes, I would track you lot down and show you the error of your ways.

Non-stop showings of Troll 2 until your brain forcibly stops your heart to end the torment.

I would be a lot more strict with temporary cool-off bans, but I would not perma-ban anyone except in very extreme occasions - personal threats, revealing personal information, stuff that does tangible harm and does not only hurt people's pride. But the cool-off box? Ohhhh, that would be constantly at capacity, I can tell you that.

Why I'd opt to keep the rude people around and bring upon myself the fate of having constantly watch and re-temporary-ban them, you ask?

Why, because the place would get fucking boring if all that's left was a bunch of yes-men talking about weather and watering pot plants.

I enforce the rules and continue to have fun on the site. Maybe I'd enjoy the odd banning but whatever. I'm quite content to sit back and watch justice be done.

I would turn mockeries of a fellow forumite´s apologies into a banable offence.

But...on the other hand I probably wouldn't ban anybody. It just wouldn't sit well with me...

...

All right, here is what I really would do:

1. Work to institute a function I'd call "thread temperature" (or "thread temp") where a user is informed on how heated the arguments in a thread has gotten. I would use some images of a thermometer at different temperatures similar to the forum health meter where max temp would lead to a thread lock.

2. Make a cohesive set of guidelines for the Religion & Politics forum. Right now that section is practically a slowly sinking ship and in dire need of some mod guidance, preferably someone who exclusively moderates it (like maddawg IAJI and the Off-topic section).
I would not say I am the right person for the job though.

3. Start using something I call "mod voice" which would essentially be a post or a single paragraph in differently coloured text (probably red). Such would be viewed as a stern directive and disregard of it would be at your own peril.

4. I'd work towards this as well.

I like this idea enough to suggest you post it in here about it. [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/groups/chat/Ideas-for-The-Escapist]

I would like it to be user powered, with one click from a viewer moving it up a tiny notch. If enough people click the gauge swings... It'd have to be small and unobtrusive though seeing as it wouldn't be relevant in at least two forums.

Retire immediately. I'm a follower, not a leader, and I do not like positions of responsibility. Yeah, boring I know, but hey.

I would familiarize myself with the rules and code of conduct and handle each infraction on a case-by-case basis. If it's some minor slip or a low-content post, I'd give a warning and a little PM outlining some of my thoughts on the manner. If the case is a blatant and serious infraction of the code of conduct and/or a repeat offense, only then would I possibly consider a ban. If the case is Daystar, there will probably be a party involved.
