The internet has bred so much hate for trolls, but we never really get to hear their side of the argument (In an intelligent manner). So I ask you, why do you trolls troll the way you do?

I am not a troll to begin with, I do not approve of their actions and personally I do not veiw them as anyone who should be allowed continued action upon a form /Disclaimer

Now then, I think most trolls do it for the same reason a child puts a thumbtack on a chair, they want that moment of attention, even if the atention is hatred. The best thing to do is to ignore them however I can see how that can be hard to do at times.

This thread is neccesarily self-defeating. You are asking the troll to explain his motives in a non-trolling manner. By discussing things like this, your answerers are essentially no longer acting as trolls.

You can take the troll out of the retard, but you can't take the retard out of the troll.

I never troll outside of YouTube. But I troll often there. I post comments that are sarcastically stupid like "FAKE, you can see the strings" for the purpose of getting thumbs up (a few of my comments are on the Highest Rated Comments lists).

But I also do it for reactions (Of course not you dumbass!). And for the counter-reactions (He's just joking, you r*tard!).

It brings a smile to my face when it works.

I used to troll people a while back. The reason I did it was pretty simple; it was funny. And I'd be lying if I said I still don't find some other people's trolling attempts to be amusing. I think the way I justified my actions was that it was jut the internet, and the people I was bothering were taking it to seriously. And in some cases I will still stand by this reasoning. Many times I would troll somebody and they would be incredibly annoyed by it to the point of making threats at my life (over the internet of course), when all along they could have just blocked me from their channel and be done with me. I grew out of trolling though, mainly because I started to find people's reactions to it to be less hilarious and more irritating. I just got sick of it.

Things would be a lot different if I had found this site back when I was still into trolling. This place is hilariously easy to troll, and I would have had a ton of fun doing it. Of course now that I'm a part of this community I find this flaw to be rather annoying. At first I'll see a troll thread and laugh at it, then remember that I'm a part of the community that is foolishly feeding it.

Bravo. Which essentially they are, or have the mind of a kitten walking on your keyboard.

Mostly? Because it is funny.
I say this as someone who does not troll, I could never get into the schadenfreude of it all. But you've heard all about "doing it for the lulz", yes? That is the most prominent reason why people troll.

There are, of course, a selection of other reasons to do it. To put someone in their place, to make people think, to get a point across in a roundabout sort of way. And, sometimes, revenge and/or personal gain. But mostly is is done just because it amuses them.

I've never trolled forums. That said, I troll yahoo answers, wiki answers, and youtube...because it's funny. Also it's fun to make up fake answers with your friends ;D

I don't troll, and never have, but I have done something just as bad. When playing games online, when I was younger, I did tend to team-kill and mess people around, just for the fun of it. I don't anymore (though I have occasionally been tempted to), but the main reason I did it when I did was just for the fun of annoying people. That's all there is to it. There's a reason "For The Lulz" has become something of a meme. That's the sole justification trolls have for trolling - they do it for a cheap laugh, nothing more.
