Hate to be boring but, Time Machine. First get loads of money (win the lottery, invest in stocks I know will succeed). Then head on back and see the sights.

portal gun
/thread
I can top that. A Portal Gun Duct Taped to a Gravity Gun.
I agree, A portal gun would be cool and you could save nassa 30 billion dolars for going to mars (just shoot a portal on earth and one on mars and you have saved 30 billion dollars for something else like world poverty.) and a portal gun would be cool for day to day task, I saw a video were someone shot a portal on the floor next to the bed and one on there wall and then rolled into the portal out of bed (I think its called "Outside aperture"). also has anyone seen "portal no escape" on youtube, it's really cool.
didn't the portal gun only work on surfaces that were treated with lunar dust?
makes the trip to mars impossible.....
No. In the Portal games, you clearly use it on regular walls. It works (to my understanding) on nearly any flat solid surface. Play that level, and listen to Cave Johnson: he says it's great for portals. Not that it's the only one. In fact, you were portalling off normal walls in the chambers prior to that.

OT: if I had bigger on the inside technology and the ability to bestow self-awareness, I could have the luggage from Discworld.

TARDIS with a working perception filter and easier controls
The perception filter works. It's the chameleon circuit that broke. That's why people are never like "WTF is that Police Box doing there?" It's also how he made the necklaces in series 3. By using TARDIS keys.

Perception filter: makes you ignore it.

Chameleon Circuit: changes the appearance. /nerd.

Anyone remember Star Trek? It was this SF Franchise that was really good once but got ruined by lazy writing.
The Holodeck would be nice; there are several explanations as to how they'd work, i like the one that involves replicated Matter. Magnetic Fields and Light Projections wouldn't generate the same haptic Feedback methinks.
Holodecks are basically magic. Apparently they can generate sentient Life out of thin Air when you tell them too. You tell the Computer to create an Opponent able to outsmart the Android who's going to play Sherlock Holmes and the Holodeck has a sentient Version of Moriarty for you.

Well, although I'm not the first one to say it, I would take a TARDIS, so long as its chameleon circuit was working. I love the police box, but I would also like the option to switch it up, maybe make it an outhouse just for laughs. The question is: which model would I want? I think I would take Smith's though, just because at some point it looks like there's a pinball-thingy in it, and I love me a good pinball-thingy.

Ars Magna from Toaru Majutsu no Index.
"With Ars Magna, they(Alchemists) can bring out thoughts into the real world, essentially, making those who can accurately simulate or mold the real world would be able to control it."
So, as one mythbuster said: "I reject your reality and substitute my own".

A laptop containing files which explain the secrets of constructing transporters, matter replicators, faster-than-light transportation drives, and fully realistic virtual realities.

Why not? :p

Ah.... Invulnerable Chassis.

You wear it like a vest, it attaches and forms to the skin, and pumps a constant stream of nanobots ((which are protected by a magnetic field so they cant be effected by electricity.))

The nanobots form an armor like layer under the skin that reacts to impacts according to the type. When the body is coming under injury, it reverts the pain into data and blocks it from the brain. The nanobots then repair said injury by creating micro-compounds that mimic tissue, and bond with nerves.

The chassis itself is made from High-carbon steel and reinforced with an artificial diamond compound, and lined with a very thin layer of gold. In between each layer is a thin membrane that nanobots can travel through, and repair the chassis itself. ((by using the damaged steel, diamond and gold thats still part of the chassis.))

The nanobots also act as red and white blood cells, transporting important resources through the body, and protecting it from viral invaders. This means that ageing would almost cease to occur because of the lack of dying cells, due to them all constantly being taken care of.

The chassis and nanobots recharge by either active movement ((which constantly generates a static charge they can charge off of, letting your body itself do most of the work)), food consumption ((the heat generated when digesting food can give the chassis a small boost of energy, as the inner layer would react to heat)), or just the act of sleeping. ((Which gives them time to charge from the process of converting the water you would sweat, which is mostly water, into fuel.))

This means even if you were locking in a room with no light or food, the act of sleeping/staying still would allow you to recharge, until you became dehydrated. But by then, due to your superhuman strength, speed, and agility, you should have found a way OUT of the room.

All of you aren't thinking...

I want either a genie lamp that has a genie inside that won't make my wishes backfire, or the Dragon Balls.

Something that can swap genders...

What? Don't look at me like that. Don't tell me you've never wondered what you would be like if you were completely the opposite gender. (As in mannerisms, looks, uh, and... "Assets", but keeping your mind/awareness/consciousness the same. (I.E. being transformed and not noticing differences in yourself other than the obvious ones.)

I'm a guy by the way, if you can't tell by this post.
I was about to post the transformation gun from El Goonish Shive [http://egscomics.com/] for more or less the same purpose. Although it can also transform people into other people, 'enhance' people, and change them into half animals too so it covers most nerd fantasies.
