Eating meat doesn't mean you don't love animals. Its base assumptions like this that just make me detest vegetarians/vegans.
Personally I don't care if you eat meat or not, it doesn't really matter because its a personal choice. When you make said personal choice into a crusade against those who aren't like you is when you are wrong.

This phrase "If you eat animals you can't love animals" can be interpreted two different ways. The way most people seem to be interpreting it "If you eat any animal, you can't love any animal" is clearly going to be flawed as there are so many counter examples like "I like eating beef, but I love my pet dog".
The other way to interpret it (and I think the correct way) is that you can't love what you eat. While I could point out a few extreme counter examples I find the intent of this argument to be true. That is you can't raise something with the intent to kill and consume it or contribute to that process and love it.
I have no problem saying I don't love most animals. I love those few that I develop a personal attachment to for whatever reason and that is the extent of it. I find animals interesting, and I value what they contribute to the biosphere and scientific understanding. That said I also believe in minimizing suffering within reason for any animal while using them for whatever purpose humans desire. I have no ethical problems raising any non-sapient animal to be slaughtered if its suffering is of similar or lesser magnitude of what it would endure in the wild. I make an effort to avoid anything produced under what is considered "intensive/factory farming" for this reason alone.
