Considering one of the rules of the Death Note is that the user can neither go to Heaven nor Hell for eternity, I wouldn't use it.

This: Whoever uses the Deathnote doesn't become a Shinigami once they die. They don't go to Heaven, no matter how many 'evil' or 'bad' people they kill. They don't go to Hell for using the Note for personal gain or, killing the 'good' or, 'kind'. The only advantage to using a Deathnote is to shape the world of the living as you want to see it. You don't even extend your life with each Death (like the Shinigami)

So, if I find a Deathnote I would take it so no other human could use it. Once the owner of the Deathnote comes to retrieve it (assuming the owner of the Note is still alive) I will give it back and urge it to keep the thing away from humans. If I end up holding onto the Deathnote for the rest of my life then...Well, I guess I'll bury it or, destroy it if I haven't been visited by a Shinigami within the first decade of me having owned it's Note. I wouldn't tell anybody about the Deathnote. I would keep it hidden.

Does the deathnote have 'death note' written on it? Can you destroy, say a specific object with it? I'd write 'Deathnote' in the deathnote to find out what happens. I'd probably end up finding out how the thing properly works. After all, light discovers you can separate parts of the deathnote but they still function so I'd have to test the limits. Also, no one would ever convict you for using it. 'She's a witch' no longer flies in a court of law

I'd cheat the DeathNote. Since I can specify the time that someone can die, I'd specify something well beyond my natural lifespan for myself.

fun fact, in the world of death note, there is no heaven of hell anyway and that was it's way of explaining that no human goes to heaven of hell (because neither exist) so it's fine as long as you don't get killed early.

Well, it depends, actually. If it's the Japanese version (in which, according to the show, says that *no one* goes to heaven or hell, which makes the concept of morality unnecessary) then I don't know what I'll do, as the shock of that revelation would make me go *insane*.

Now, if it was the American dub, which just has the simple "Don't use the Deathnote if you want to go to heaven or hell", then I would do the following.

1. Keep it in a safe place so no one could misuse it or accidentally screw themselves over by using it without knowing what it was.

2. If the owner asks for it, give it back. I wouldn't say anything about "trying not to let it fall into human hands" because he or she might think I was using sass against him and give him or her an excuse to kill me.

3. If the book no longer has an official owner, and the Shingami who dropped it says I should keep it, I'll try to befriend the Shingami. No really, I would. He could hang out with me, I'll let him has regular servings of his favorite human food and we could be best friends forever.

If it was real, like most people I'd imagine, I'd at leats test it to make sure.
Then I'd probably turn into a more amateurish Kira that would be caught easily.

OT: I have no idea what I would do.

It really depends on my mood I suppose.
I don't want to be depressed the day I find the Deathnote.
