In that universe reincarnation exists (or at least in the case of the bowl of petunias) and it has decided it wants to screw with one guy by always making it reincarnate and then promptly die through peculiar circumstances. In this case he was reincarnated as petunias and the infinite improbability drive spontaneously traded all the atoms of the missile for those of that Petunia plant.
