Right, so I got home yesterday, opened the back gate, and was about to lock it, when some kid comes up to it.

"Hi.." he says

".....hi" is my response. I carried on putting my bike in the shed. He giggles. "What you laughing at?"

"Cos your wierd." Playing along with this I reply "Why am I wierd?"

His response made me stop what I was doing.
"...cos you live in a dump!"

I approached the gate, to which he was now scamppering away from. "You little shit! Learn some F*%&@#g Manners!"

I couldn't be arsed with giving him anymore of my attention, so I went inside and got changed.

My girlfriend was back out the gate on the alley looking up and down it. ".....'sup?"

the little shit had been kicking the back gate.

Now, I remember when I was younger, if i put a foot out of line, like being rude to strangers, I got a thick ear, a slap round the backside or worse, a clout round the head!

this little cretin clearly had no concept of if you do things like that, there are consequences...to which I assume his parents are a bunch of hippies, with the outlook of "...I don't disipline my kids, its bad for them" or doll scum with "I don't care about my kids, they just put another £200 a month on my giro!"

now if i have kids, and they do shit like that, I will clout them, cos it prepares you for life ahead and teaches you that actions have consequences. Good actions have good consequences, and vice versa.

otherwise they might end up like kanye west or paris hilton.

What you'll find is there is always going to be bad or naughty kids and the next generation always seems less discinplened than your own, mainly because memories tend to skew what used to happen to you in your own life and you can't remember that things were much the same. The world always seems to be getting worse but never does. Your incident, an unfortunate, sad and needless act of stupidity on the kids behalf, is not isolated in this generation or previous ones. Unfortunately, it's human nature that these sorts of things will keep happening and always will happen. Sad, but true.

I would've thrown a shoe at the little prick.
I suck at throwing stuff, I always miss... except with shoes. It's uncanny. BEHOLD THE SNEAKER OF RETRIBUTION!

If a kid literally set fire to your car, he would probably get either get a "stern talking too" or, in an extreme case, community service for a day.

If you try to defend yourself against such things here you can find yourself put in prison.

I know this sounds like I am making shit up, or talking about extremes, but seriously - it is what life is like here now.

Amen to that. Thing is, you dont even need to be massively strict or violent with kids to keep them in line. My parents never hit me, never even shouted at me that much, but they made me into a (without wanting to blow my own trumpet) pretty well mannered, polite, considerate and respectful person. It really isnt that hard.

Do you live in the UK by any chance? This kind of thing is becoming quite common here.
Regrettably, this is true.

Do you, per se, live in a dump?
well I rent a ground floor flat, the landlord has been repeately asked to shift an old chair from the back yard. So its not a dump, the chair is not inside out or anything, there's no litter all over the place or anything.

sad but true, ok. But this cycle can be broken, its getting worse here in the uk, gobby little shits all over the place.

One day somebodys going to snap, and its going to be plastered all over the news of how a 45 year old man throttled some 10 year old kid for calling him a wanker for no reason.

This. Kids become douchebags mainly if no-one cares to teach them basic ethics. If you do tell them what's right and what's wrong,it's not neccesary to do it with a side order of beatings.

How old was this kid?

Anyway, gotta love living in Britain, the country in which kids and rowdy teens can get away scott-free, but OAP's who stand up for themselves against these people end up being arrested.

Any way, when I did something wrong when I was a kid, I was never shouted at, just told they were disappointed in me.

That's a lot worse then being shouted at or hit round the ear.

I would hazard a guess that your example has happened many times before in history, the difference now is the media will be covering it.

Lol, I could tell you live in the UK. You sound like my mum.
"Give 'em a clip round earhole!"
Kids are getting ruder, but I wouldn't say parent are fully to blame. I think most of them get in a bad crowd and the friends influence them.

That is part of the reason I prefer living in asia. Kids get hit when they misbehave and noone will start ranting about child abuse. Its not child abuse here till your kid's almost dead.

if my mum was pissed off, we made sure to not make things worse, she is a completly loveing and caring mother, but step out of line and u face the penalty for it. sorry to rant but this reminds me of a story i heard a little while ago that annoys me:

in sum clothing shop, pirmark propably, a woman came out screaming uncontrolably for sum1 to help, after about 5 mins which she calmed down enough to tell the security that a woman was beating up her child(the other women, not shouty) turns out the kid was annoying every1 and opening curtains an stuff with people changing, or shouting, his mum grabbed him and spanked him ONCE, said a few stern words and he stopped and calmed down, yet this tard thought that was child abuse!! :S

the world need sbloody discapline, without look wot we get, neds/chavs walking the street, kids killing each other and laughing proudly about, george bush being president, gangs all over the place, it needs to bloody well stop

BINGO! Mass public outcry!

whereas in the time upto were getting a slap from you parents was a part of growing up, it was never a problem.
Then
"Did you call Mr. jekins in the shop a miserable old git"
"yes, and he twatted me and told me to get out!"
THUNK! "Language! and serves you right!"

Now
"I called mr jenkins a twat and he hit me!"
"...hello police, yes I'd like to report an assault......"

I still believe things like this are cyclical in nature, and each generation seems to make the same mistakes. Of course, Socrates famous quote does help substantiate this a bit;

"Children today are tyrants. They contradict their parents, gobble their food, and tyrannize their teachers."

This is different from today's society how?
