Elder scrolls 3 may be a bit dated but in many ways it still far outstrips many of our beloved next generation titles. the shear depth of hidden items, non story content, and side quests make Morrowind one of the longest games i have ever played. The game also allows you to do anything you want, including things that contradict the story. kill the wrong NPC and a message apears on the screen informing you of your deviance from fate, blocking you from continuing along the main quest. I discovered this when i met an NPC in a temple that was apearently a god, so i killed him to see if i could.

now imagine my mixed emotions as my character that i had spent many afternoons crafting into a magnificent glowing master of the arcane, more powerfull even then the gods.... but now i cant beat the main quest. all and i think it was worth it. so my question is what would it take for you to sacrifce the main purpose of your chacter in your favorite game.

That's why I always save before I decide to kill something, that way I get the best of both worlds.

I'm going to have another crack at Morrowind. I've tried it on numerous occasions and always found it too slow. But Ilove Oblivion & Fallout3 so I reckon I'll be more patient.

Well, it generally takes something pretty big to get me to abandon my main quest. Morrowind, however, I found to be a little to big without putting enough focus on my main quest. I never did advance the story, mainly because I didn't have to. I could traipse about doing whatever I pleased forever, and there was no penalty for doing so. I'm not saying there should be a penalty, but something that helps keep me on track is good.
I found that Fallout 3 did this really well, by forcing me to look at my objectives any time I brought up the map, which meant that I always knew where the game was leading me, so I could tell if I was just screwing around, or actually getting closer to the main goal.
To get me to abandon my main goal by killing said important NPC, there would really need to be something better than it, and generally, no story you find as a side quest will have as much effort put in as the main quest.

I bought Morrowind with the expansion packs and i feel betrayed because i can't play it because my computer is too good... And I have Vista. From what i played i wish i could have had the chance to make a near invincible character and tempt fate instead i got tired of the constant freezing.

I once went through Morrowind......and literally killed every single NPC I could find. I did a better job of being a villain than the villains did. Then I killed myself on purpose by repeatedly levitating as high as I could and then dropping down.

After that I started a new game and was essentially Christ himself for all the good I did.

I loved Morrowind. I actually got a mod that allowed me to steal the power of that thingy that gave those gods power, i think it was someones heart. I didn't kill anyone important though just stole everything they had.

i hear all of these great things about morrowind, but i was unfortunate enough to miss it when it came out, despite having an xbox (i'm sorry i was loving Halo too much), and now i have a copy, i played it and i can't stand it, so it's one experience i'll never be able to have, because i can't stand the game itself

It's not that great. It's really pretty lackluster and mediocre... A game with pretty sad combat, combined with sad animations and really, REALLY grind-y gameplay.

If you've ever played an MMO, imagine that, but slightly more like an FPS and with no players to group or talk with.
my biggest problem with it was that your player ran like an utter gimp. he hardly looked like he was moving any faster that he was when he was walking

and melee combat was horrible. i could see me hitting him, but doing no damage at all wtf?

Never save. That's true RPGing.
That's true lunacy, especially when you have 40 mods and will be lucky if you can play for more than 30 minutes without crashing.

Never reloading however..
