You =/= your personality

This is just a small topic that I caught myself pondering as I walked past a mirror, back to my laptop just now. As I passed the mirror, I caught a glimpse of myself and I found myself thinking, my face, how I look, doesn't match me; or rather, doesn't match my mannerisms.
It's like looking in the mirror and yes, you see the features of your face and you know they're yours, but your face doesn't match who you are, your personality.
I have a "nice face" I'm told, but my thoughts are, sadly, often dark and it just doesn't show in my physical identity. It doesn't really bother me that much, but it's a noticeable inconsistency.

And so comes the point of discussion, are there any fellow Escapist's who have felt the same for themselves. If so, to what extent does it disturb you?

Just a note for ease of understanding; I suppose a summery of an extreme version of the idea would be, seeing yourself and only seeing a stranger to your mind.

Yeah, but mostly because of my glasses. When I'm not wearing them I think I look suitable for how I present myself. With them on I look about 12.

I want to see myself on film. You can see me in my profile, and I guess if you really wanted to you could compare it to my posts and see if they fit.

But I can agree with your last line of thought. I used to have really bad self-esteem issues. I would never look in the mirror, and it got to the point where I had forgotten what I looked like. That's a terrifying feeling.

Seems like you've got a picture of yourself in the attic?

I know the feeling that you describe, but now that you mention it, I realize that I haven't had it for at least 6 to 7 years. Guess I grew into myself, one way or the other.

As an afterthought: Well if you find that sad, try do something about it. Think positive. As long as you don't suffer from clinical depression, you can definitely influence your state of mind.

Hence the saying 'Don't judge a book by it's cover'. Same for me really... although, sometimes, people mistake me for being meaner then I actually am!

I look quiet and shy because I have this long fringe that covers half of my face (whole face sometimes) so I look like I'm hiding... I'm actually the opposite :D

Dorian Gray!

Do I get a cookie?

I don't think I look like what I think I am like... does that make sense?

I certainly don't suffer from any depression and all my problems are more or less of my own making; so there is no reason why I can't attempt to make my personality match my physical identity. Thanks ^^ I'll try.

Take one look at me and you think "easygoing, friendly sweetheart." The carefree smile, relaxed posture, and penchant for holding my head high tell you everything you need to know. (except when I'm tilting my head down to talk to a rat, as illustrated to the left.)

I've always been like that---I get it from my mother.

I know where you're coming from.

In winter time, especially, I can look like something I'm definitely not - or when I've got really short hair(almost bald). I look like, and move, as if I was some sort of hoodlum or something of the sort. I'm burly with really broad shoulders, and will wear hoodies and baggy jeans. I'm a big guy, and in some parts of Copenhagen, Denmark, I have to wear a hat when hair is short because I look too much like a Biker(More specifically their AK81-division, being like biker-recruits). (And Bikers get shot at)

In truth I'm a very easygoing person and I'm very nice. So my rather intimidating looks doesn't really do me justice in that regard.

My hair is long now, effectively ruining any and all biker-relations, but I'm still a big guy, and somehow expected to be an inane, violent asshole. I can be violent, but that's not the point - the point is that I'm definitely not one, most of the time.

Oh my long, curly, blond hair :---)

Nope, I'm an arsehole and I look like one. At least, that's my theory as to why I only have a small group of close friends.

Grow your hair long, dye it black, wear eyeliner and stupid clothes, and then get a sex change. You'll feel MUCH better, trust me, I was the same and now I'm great!

On film I appear a lot more gay and/or British than I feel I am if that's what you mean...

People think fat people are jolly and funny, but I'm a miserable sod most of the time.
I must also have an ugly personality to match the face because not too many people like me.

I have no idea really. I'm not even too sure what my personality is. Nor would I know if I look like any particular personality. Not really my forté.
