this song is pretty badass.

but that's just me. I like my game music in 8bits.

edit: in fact, I'll say, Mega man has some of the best music ever.. and in this post I'll post all 6 original megaman mission songs

And honestly, I think this song was playing when my heart was beating the fastest it's ever beaten in my whole life:

/thread.

I like it because it gets me hyped and makes me want to run down the street with anime speed lines whizzing by. It makes me want to square off with my mortal enemy in a Jenga match of death. It makes me want to fight white tigers with an uzi.

Also, the opening chords just thrum with that urgency that makes you need to listen to this song, so you can enjoy the great ride that it is.

I'm to lazy to type up why I like a particular piece of game music right now, so I'm just going to copy+paste what I had in the last thread almost exactly like this one.

I don't really think there is any one "best gaming music", because such a thing is incredibly subjective. For example, many have mentioned Still Alive from Portal, yet I absolutely loathe that song. Meanwhile I praise the other piece of the Portal soundtrack which go largely unnoticed by others. So I guess this thread is essentially a "favorite game music" thread, and I will respond appropriately. Though personally I don't even have a single piece of favorite gaming music since there are so many different ones that mean different things to me.

However this is one of my personal favorites. It's a very immersive piece from both of the Half-Life games. During the first game it played during the tram ride into the heart of the facility. The time at which nothing was going wrong and you may have forgotten that the game was supposed to be about a physicist bludgeoning aliens to death with a crowbar. It really eased you into the game and helped you to assume the role of Gordon Freeman. In the second game, it plays when you acquire the gravity gun in the scrap yard with Alex. And that's what I find to be special about this song. During both games, it plays in the only two area that could truly be considered "safe". It invokes a feeling of calmness that is experienced exclusively in these two areas, a time in which you weren't being told to hurry along to the next destination. The music is used to create a very special moment of nostalgia for the player as they think back to the very beginning of it all.

The area this song plays in is very different from the above. In Half-Life, this song plays inside a teleporation room in Xen, while in Half-Life 2 it plays in the flooded basement of Nova Prospekt. Despite both of these areas being in the heart of enemy territory, this song also invokes a feeling of calmness. You know that you are still in danger, yet these places feel relatively safe. A calm during the middle of the storm.

These two songs invoke feelings that contrast with the overall oppressive feeling of the rest of the game, hence why they are memorable to me. This at least how I felt when listening to them. I imagine people had different responses to these songs than I did.
Also if the OP says to explain why you like the song, why is almost no one doing that?

Hell motherfucking March. The beat, the guitar, the bass--everything about this song kicks so much arse. The second half of the song is also great, in its own way. It's like both factions have their own side of the song.

I love quite a few songs from games. In many ways they are better than the music we hear on the radios or TV. Though if I were to pick one song it would be this one:

Many of you will know the scene where this song is from. I love it for the nostalgia value. While there have been numerous games I've played where there is music that I love. I keep coming back to this one song when I think of the very best.

These two songs will always be my favorite and both are Castlevania Symphony of the Night Music.
1) Dracula's Castle: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uAIZqfAhEwc
2) The Tragic Prince: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RO34ixsNZaE&feature=related

If I really had to pick one I'd choose The Tragic Prince because = love.

Yeah, I did find myself grooving to the music unintentionally as I played that one.

Also, hilarious av.

This song pretty much, the opening that accompanied the song was also just as kick-ass when I was watching it at the age of around 9 or 10?

In my mind, there couldn't have been a more perfect song played at the beginning of Fallout 3. It contrasts so sharply with the desolate and chaotic nature of the Wasteland, and yet it sets the mood perfectly. It represents innocence, hope, love - all these things which have been consumed by the flames of war. At the same time, it fits in nicely with the whole 50s backdrop that is present throughout the game, another aspect of Fallout 3 that I enjoyed immensely.

Most of the Fallout series has great music like this. It's what adds so much of the charm, for me, at least.

This one's my favorite, though.

And they always seem to provoke thoughts associated with their accompanying games. Like here, 'Maybe' in Fallout 1 was perfect, considering the ending.

plays at the end credit where you finish the game
and credits roll while images of those who have fallen before you

makes you realize that in the end, there is only pain after the war is over
the only thing that matters is what happened politically and territorially.
and the ones that fought the war have been scarred and left in ruins to make things better.

as a war hero, you realize this only after the war is over.
and your friend tried to kill you so that you can realize that earlier
