Brave New World for Civilization 5.

It turned a medium turn based strategy into a true successor of the title, really made the game fun, fixed a lot of issues and really just made the game better in every single way.

The Extended Cut from Mass Effect 3. A free DLC put out to make the ending not so bad, and they didn't have to do it, they didn't it to try and fix a lot of the bitching. Haven't played the Citadel yet. Bought, but the lack of controller support for ME1 on PC makes me hesitant.

The Last of Us comes to mind, tbh of the top of my head its the only one I'd consider buying again. All the free DLC for Unreal Tournament back in the day was pretty sweet aswell.

So there's a wealth of hatred and suspicion towards DLCs and more pointedly at how certain devs abuse them to make a quick buck and produce either shoddy material or content that should have been in the game day ONE.

Let's flip the cards and tackle the issue with a bit of positivity to show these devs what we actually WANT out of a DLC.

Mention your favorite DLC(s) and why you enjoyed them so much.
Hey Shaun,

To you, and everyone who participated in this thread, thanks. You've provided the subject matter for something brand new - an Escapist Community Gallery of the Day. Check it out!

I'll be looking for more threads that lend themselves to this going forward. Stay tuned!

My all time favourite DLC was Pinnacle Station for Mass Effect, it was what DLC is supposed to be, it doesn't tell a story required for the sequels, it was filler content that was fun with it's own enjoyable story.

I loved Return to Ostagar for Dragon Age: Origins, yeah ok most of it was recycled but they put enough effort in for it to be fun, I got to explore some of the area I didn't see before and it tied in nicely and expanded the original story so yeah, I was one happy player.
Yeah, I always thought that was... if not a great technical example of DLC, per se, something I still hugely enjoyed. Unlike other slices of Origins crappy DLC, Return To Ostagar tied directly into the main story. Really liked the character narrative scenes it added for Alistair, too. Oh, and Cailain's armour, shield and sword are some of the best in the game, so it had decent loot as well.

Dragon Age II's Legacy and Mark Of The Assassin were both surprisingly decent, too.

Most of my favourite DLC's have already been mentioned (Lair Of The Shadow Broker, Artorias Of The Abyss to name two standouts), but one hasn't been (I don't think); Lara's Shadow for Tomb Raider Underworld. It re-used the same few areas (which admittedly looked rather spiffy at the time), but playing as Lara's Doppelganger gave the whole game a completely different feel. She was a rather nifty character in her own right, too.

It didn't have a long runtime, but it at least tried something very different from the core game, which is something very few DLC's really bother with.

My favorite Dlc has to be "Dark Arisen" for Dragons Dogma. It added more to the story added new monsters and weapons/spells. And ramped up the difficulty

I loved the legend of Dead Kel for kingdoms of Amalur. The original game was good. I liked the lore, the smooth combat and the fact that your accomplishments were acknowledged, unlike TES games.

The Dead Kel added a whole new area, a stronghold you could upgrade and it felt fresh.

Shadow broker and dragonfall were also great games, but I wish koa got more love from players, because it didn't get much from the developer.
