Well, as we all know, there's plenty of threads about your favourite bands/genres etc. How about for a change you post about the bands you like from genres that aren't usually your cup of tea at all.

Well I'll start with saying that whilst I'm a huge fan of metal, I absolutely love Daft Punk.
Get down with that bass yo!

And lets just say that any other house/electronica band I've heard has made me want to strangle them. A lot.

Another would be Amanda Palmer/Dresden dolls, whose quirky piano songs wouldn't be my cup o tea if it wasn't so damn awesome.
If I could have sex with this song I would. Oh yes.

So, Escapist posters, any bands you have a sweet spot from a genre you don't really like, or even hate?

I love Amanda Palmer, I plan on marrying her.
I tend to dabble in most genres so I can't really pick out any specific artists.
Perhaps, that Dio cover by Killswitch Engage as I generally steer clear of that subgenre of metal.

Yeah, I tend to too, but good lord I hate house music, which is why I found it so weird that I love Daft punk...

Also, I think Neil Gaiman is marrying her. :(

I don't actually like this song, because I'm not really a fan of the technopop feel that I get from it. However, I am intrigued by the melody, and the fact the music, when broken down, is tolerable for me. I can't stand it as a song though.

Ever since Rickrolling became a phenomenon, I can't get enough of Rick Astley, and people have gotten really annoyed at me when I get Rickrolled and start singing along.

I know, I sat at the table next to him at one of her shows.
We'll see how well he handles a chainsaw attack though.
Chances are, not well.

I can't think of any major genre which I don't have at least 5 albums of.

I generally dislike dubstep, but...

Burial has made some of the most atmospheric music I own. The whole of his album Untrue to me captures perfectly the vibe of walking around a city late at night. The coldness, the buzz, the slight menace, the figures coming in and out of the haze. Really beautiful. Nothing like the dubstep that they play in clubs.

I loathe emo, but "Dance Dance" is a catchy tune.

And I listen to just about anything, the exceptions being metal and new country for the most part.

My favorite guitarist of all time. He does a perfect cross-over of metal and bluegrass country. He is probably the only country artist I enjoy.

I love Ratatat. "Seventeen Years" has been my jam for the longest time.

As for me, I don't listen to anything else remotely like it, but I adore Serge Gainsbourg.

Also, he did this, which is one of the most hilarious things I've ever seen.

He is one of my heroes for both artistic and, umm, "other" reasons.

That said though, there is an excellent crop of new rock bands that have come up in the past few years, like Airbourne, Black Stone Cherry and Black Spiders.

Anyway, I'm not the biggest hip hop/ rap fan outside of old school gangsta rap (Public Enemy, NWA), but I'm a big fan of Atmosphere:
That song is just amazing.

That was the first time I've seen that video, and I'm not yet sure that's really a woman. I may need more proof.

Anyway, under normal circumstances I'd probably hate songs like this, but for some reason I enjoy it. Take away my cool card if you must, I can't help it.
