To me, birthdays have always felt like a poor attempt at adding excitement to our mundane lives. Why waste your money on presents and cake when you can spend it on Pot Noodles and pie?

It's my birthday today. I'm officially no longer a teenager. Not sure how I feel about this.

My birthday was 15 days ago and I've finally had a family meal with my parents/siblings (who I live with).

It can be somewhat difficult to organize a real celebrations, especially as my bday coincides with exam period. However I'll do something for my next birthday, as it's my 21st and I didn't do anything for my 18th.

Oh man, I'm turning 22 this year. When did that happen? Time seems like it's sped up.
Good lord, you're old.
You'll be dead soon, you know.
Yeah, yeah, I know; you've already told me. But to be fair, you said you'd die before you got to be my age, so you'll be dead soon as well.

Plus, I don't really see the point in celebrating another year survived.
(This only applies to me, for some reason. I celebrate other peoples birthdays like nobodies business)
I seem to find myself doing that as well. My own birthday doesn't seem all that important but I do love to celebrate my friend's birthdays.

I usually visit my parents and let them cook dinner for me. It's important to them that it's my birthday, and it's important to visit your parents once in a while, so yeah. I don't really care about my birthday.

Happy birthdays!

Mines January 1st, so i have no need to plan anything. Everyones in town and soon as it hits midnight theres a townful of drunk people, alot of whom know its my birthday, soo no need for anything other than that.

On my 18th I did go into town the day after with afew good mates stupidly hungover to get afew drinks for my 18th, but other than that had a private party thats just about me since I was little. No need :)

It happens after awhile. I stopped paying attention to my birthday a few years ago. It's always surprising when I get a call from someone saying "Happy Birthday!" and I respond "Really? Huh...".
Really? I find that hard to believe, even if you don't care about your birthday, you must realise in advance that its coming up, unless you never look at a calander.

I stopped celebrating once I realized I was basically celebrating the fact I hadn't gotten myself killed for another year.

I have a good feeling about next year.
That sounds like a much better reason to celebrate than the standard "I was born X years ago today".

You aren't happy you survived another year?

well my joy for both Christmas and birthdays were both killed by my mother saying: "this year we wont have much money for a party, or presents, or much of anything." Then around my 18th B'day she was put back in the Asylum for the 5th time in 5 years. So i said to myself "screw it, it's just another day." Its only now that i am married and my wife makes a big fuss about my b'day that i even bother getting out of bed for it.

For her Bday and christmas i am usually the family cook, so every one comes to our place for dinner, or lunch.

I think I will just chill. Maybe do something with some friends :)

All people that have birthday today should pop into the Escapist Birthday Party and party!

I don't usually do anything special for my birthdays.
I don't particularly like them, too much hassle and people pay attention to you sometimes.

Happy birthday xD

I see the importance of birthdays, not just to show you've 'survived' another year, though the thought does cross, i believe, everyone's minds. I see it as that one day in that 365(.25) that is 'your's', a day to reflect on your past, what you've done since your conscious existence and what you try to do for the future. In another sense, along with it being 'your' day, a birthday is like the myspace/facebook/bebo/... of life, to edit and do with it as you see fit.

Despite this i don't celebrate my birthday lol. Mostly not having anything to look back on or forward too. Plus i have most of the possessions that I could get with my parent's budget. regardless any gift is a great gift to me. I tend to spend that 21st of may (;)) In my room like any other day, gaming, preferably with a significant other.

Actually i did exactly this this year, I only realized 4 days before my birthday and purely because someone commented on my only being 15. I did know that i was soon to be 16.. i just didn't realize how soon heh

I only celebrate my birthday when it falls on a friday.
Last year I just happened to plan to go to Disneyland with my love.
So essentially once every 7-15 years depending if leap year fucks with my birthday.
My 21 birthday was on a friday. and my next will be in the year 2012 when I am 27.
I resolved to stop celebrating after my 16th birthday since one of my best friends died in a car crash 3 days after my 16th.
To this day, being 24 now, I still can't fully celebrate my birthday because of it.
Just the pain of remembering her death.
Oh and if yall are wondering, I was born on the 13th hence why I celebrate on Fridays.
