Ah ok. Just out of curiosity though are you using the stock cooler? If you are then I would suggest getting this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Arctic-Cooling-Freezer-Socket-Cooler/dp/B000KB96QS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1239475052&sr=8-1

Helped me go from 3.0 to 3.4:)
I was using that at first, switched to a Sunbeam CCF recently. Good coolers, but I think I'm being limited by either the chip or the motherboard in this case.

2.7 Ghz Intel Celeron
ATI X1650 (AGP connection)
2GB RAM
17" Screen 1280-1024
Surround Sound- Some cheap set from a coupke of years ago.

Runs: Tom Clancy's Hawks pretty well. Can even just about run Bioshock. Chokes on many modern FPS's though. It's a Low settings lurker.

Runs everything I through at it fairly well. GTA IV runs pretty well with medium textures and everything else cranked. Quad cores don't overclock as well as dual cores... because they have 4 cores! I thought that would be obvious that more cores = more heat.

I've never fully understood, but how come dual cores seem to overclock better than quad cores?:/

Power supply: Zalman 600W [http://www.zalman.com/ENG/product/Product_Read.asp?idx=196] with ultra-quiet variable-speed 120mm fan and heatpipes

Fans: GPU is passive cooled, no fan there; ultra-quiet 120mm fans on CPU and PSU, already described; plus ultra-quiet 80mm fan at case rear. Super duper! I loves heatpipes :)

Built in stages. Cost less than £800 eighteen months ago. No grotesque neon lights or fancy decals. Calm and collected on the outside, with subdued and tasteful style, giving no indication of the awesome power contained within :-D

Also, laptop: Asus X50: Intel 2GHz Core2 Duo, 2GB 533MHz DDR2 RAM, nVidia GeForce 8200MG, 250GB SATA, DVD+-RW, 15.4" TFT 16:10 1280x800, weight 2.6kg (not too heavy), OS: Ubuntu Linux.

And I am no more a geek than Jeremy Clarkson when he pines over how many horsepowers his car has! ;-)

Not too long ago, I decided it was time for an upgrade from my old 2.8 gHz single core, radeon 7000, 512 mb RAM, 80 Gb hard drive machine.

I upgraded by building this:

CPU: Intel E8400 3.0 Ghz dual-core overclocked to ~3.5 gHz stable on stock air (I went fairly conservative on the overclock, I know people who have got it to 4 Ghz on stock without problems)

Motherboard: EVGA nvidia Nforce 790i SLI FTW edition.

RAM: 4 Gb DDR3 1600 (2x 2 gb sticks)

GPU: 2x XFX Nvidia GTX 260 Black Edition (a single GTX 260 Black Edition has performance equal to, and sometimes better than a 280, and they were about $300 less expensive when I purchased them. And don't flame me for not getting the 4870. The 260 Black is faster, and they were on sale when I got them, so instead of being way more expensive, they were actually cheaper.)

HDD: 1 TB

Sound: I forget the exact name.

PSU: A good quality 1000 watt power supply (the cheapest ones are not worth the money difference, as they are very badly put together.

Case: Cooler Master HAF 932. (It may not be pretty, but its cooling is amazing, without being loud.)

Monitor: Acer 24" 1920x1200 native resolution.

Thanks to the fact that building computers oneself is way less expensive, and a bunch of sales and rebates, all of this, including the monitor, came out to approx. $2000 back in December, when all of this hardware was new. It runs everything I can throw at it, including Crysis, at full settings without so much as a hiccup in frame rate. That's a definite improvement from having to play Half-Life 2 on all lowest settings with frequent crashes when large explosions occured.
