Your "Coolest pistol" in any game or movie!

I'm looking to build a new neat replica for my livingroom display shelf now that my replica Thermal Detonator is off to get nickel plated for that sweet shiny finish. I have never done a gun before, but I really feel like it is time! I want to start simple and small (so that it wont be too much work, and also fit on a shelf display), so I am asking you all for help:

What do YOU think is the coolest pistol in any game or movie that you have seen? I'm thinking about a sort of "signature weapon" for a particular character, not just any old pistol. Something that is somewhat unique to a character, movie or game, something people can look at and recognize! For the sake of the thread I'll allow all kinds of pistols, unmodified or otherwise (I'm obviously likely to pick one that will prvoide me with a reasonable challenge), and I'd also love for you to tell me exactly why the gun you chose is your favorite -along with a picture- and maybe even a recommendation for a movie or videogame I have not played before, so that I may watch/play it and get a bit connected with the piece in question.

Thank you so much for any help, and I hope you'll have a bit of fun with this thread as you are helping me!

How about the Auto-9 from RoboCop? It's iconic, even if it isn't my favorite pistol in a game or film. That accolade goes to the AMT Hardballer from the Hitman franchise. It might lack the same on-screen presence, but if you're a fan of the franchise, Blood Money shows off some of the nice details for the slide - getting those right might be a challenge.

With guns people seem to recognize the shape before they identify any model, so if you're looking to make something small then any derringer would do. It wouldn't have to be from a particular film as long as it's a derringer, since the vast majority of people are not going to be experts on the topic. I know I'm certainly not.

Han Solo's DL44 heavy blaster is both iconic and should be quite a challenge to get the details right.

From New Vegas I personally think A Light Shining in the Darkness is a handsome gun but probably not iconic enough. People who haven't played the game wouldn't recognize it.

A real iconic gun from a movie, hmmmmm... Dirty Harry's .44 Magnum. Beautiful and scary all at the same time.

What about the 'Settler' pistol from Rage? It's a neat-looking dystopian weapon that isn't too outlandish or stupid (I'm looking at you, Gunblade, whatever the hell you are).

Lore: It is a futuristic revolver that can fire bullets of several calibres, including its standard ammunition, 'Fatboy' ammunition, 'Fat Mommas' and 'Killbursts'.

Equipped by: I can't say this weapon is really unique to the player. It is given to you by the first person you meet, but like the majority of weapons in the game it has been tinkered with, customised and jury-rigged to an extent.

Sadly, I can't recommend the game itself - it was just too unstable (I ran it on a Radeon HD5850 - texture popping was very bad on this and other AMD cards).

It's a shame I haven't seen that movie, I certainly will now that I see the gun! From googling around people seem to say it is based upon the Beretta 9mm, and it seems incredibly easy to get a hold of a full-metal replica of that gun. Making the other parts seems doable too, definently making this movie for viewing.

I can't believe I didn't think of this one, being a massive Star Wars nerd myself! It certainly is iconic as hell, but as you say I am concerned it could prove a bit too challenging. After googling around for a bit it seems like a lot of talented people have put a heck of a lot of effort into finding the right parts for this one, and some of them are still disputed. I will definently look into making this one though, it is such an amazing prop and it would look perfect on the shelf next to the Thermal Detonator! Thanks!

Ohw yea, this is what I'm talking about. I have always had a thing for revolvers, and this kind of chunky modified version is just down my alley. Google turned up quite a few decent pictures, and I really love the look of that home-madey hammer. Do you have any idea which gun this is based off of? In any case this seems like it would take a lot of treasure hunting and guesswork to get right, considering there doesn't appear to be any real-world versions of this in existence as far as I can see. If I am wrong I would love to see some pictures of that, as it could be a big help in making it a feasable project. I am concerned that I may have to construct every single piece from scratch, and I don't have daily access to a machine shop so that would prove a challenge indeed!

Thanks for your contributions everyone, I really hope to see more neat suggestions!

Not much of an artist myself, but my understanding is that the original DL44 was built around a German C96 Mauser, like the one shown below. If you wanted to try this, you should be able to acquire a non firing replica for less than $100 and go from there.

Well this has to be here.

The downside is that they're rather loud, though, and mess up your silent assassin ratings :/

Just when I had gotten over my Mardock Scramble obsession you put it back in my consciousness. Although thanks to that I finally found a gif I wanted for an avatar a while back.

Technically it is an AI, that can turn into pretty much anything, including a gun.

What's that judge dread gun called? That looks pretty powerful and it has all the selective fires and gadgets on it too.

I don't know why, but I always loved the Dostovei from Goldeneye. I just loved the sound it made.

Other great options would be the Hivehand from Half Life 1, or the Lazer gun (also from Goldeneye, and which, IIRC, was only accessible in either multiplayer or by using a cheat).

The goddamn Patriot, from Metal Gear:

It's an iconic piece, and the signature weapon of a character whose influence has been central to every Metal Gear game. Everything happened because of her. The Boss, the original Snake's mentor. The pistol itself it the tool that ended her life, but spread her influence much farther. Its design is deceptively simple: its a shortened M16 with no stock and a prototype beta C-Mag, effectively making it an oversized machine pistol.

Woah, yea that looks like an exact match for what it was based on, but with a shortened barrel by the looks of things. It seems a lot easier to make out what other pieces I need when I see what the base gun looks like on its own!

I only saw the most recent Dredd (2012) film, but that certainly is a pretty neat gun. It looks like something that has to be scratch built though, unless you or anyone else knows what gun it is based on (if any)? The idea of fitting it with a working display on its side really tempts me though, I always love those glowy bits that really make it stand out as a sci-fi kind of weapon.

You could always have a look at some of the pistols from Metro: Last Light as well. Most of them were cobbled together in the Lore from spare pre-war weapon parts in underground armouries. Two good examples are the 'Ashot' and the 'Lolife'. The 'Ashot' is basically a one-cartridge shotgun/pistol hybrid, while the 'Lolife' looks like it was based on several real-life weapons:

Mauser C96: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mauser_C96

PP-91 Kedr: http://world.guns.ru/smg/rus/pp-91-cedar--wedge-e.html

These relatively inexpensive weapons can be modified in various way, as shown in the videos below.

Ashot:

Lolife:

Finally, comrade, demonstrations of both:

I'm going to be the dickhead that points out that revolvers are not pistols, effectively ruining this thread.

Good? Good.

Now then, best pistol? Quite obvious:

Ebony and Ivory, because when you're slaying demons you have to do it in the classiest way possible.

My favourite pistol has always been the Enforcer from Unreal Tournament. I don't know why but I find the ammo part being in the front part of the pistol cool to me (I guess it's unquie looking).

I've always liked the Halo Magnum, it looks futuristic while still looking practical. Considering its fame for having a scope and being over powered, I like to think it is iconic.

No, you in fact lose the thread. Everyone who posts a revolver loses the thread.
