Your country without laws

It would suck. I have a friend who thinks that a country without laws would be good because people would work together. It totally wouldn't be like that. It would be every man for himself for the most part, everything would descend into chaos after a pretty short time i think.

You'd be surprised. Chaos and misfortune definitely bring out the worst in some people, but it also brings out the best in others.

I don't have enough experience in such things to know how it would play out in the US, and I fully expect there to be chaos to some degree, but it won't be nearly as bad as most people in this thread seem to think. Generally, people like the status quo. It's comfortable. Just because the rules got thrown out the window doesn't mean human nature is going to change.

We'll most likely see a rise in petty crime, but not a terribly huge one.

OT: Im in Canada. While the major cities would go to hell pretty quick, I could see alot of the smaller remote communities not changing a hell of alot (those that can be relitivley self sufficent that is). That of invasion by the US as their govermet tries to 'secure' the border...Im moving north.

i guess im pretty pessimistic about the whole thing, but think about it: no laws = legalised murder/killings and all that. that means that the petty criminals might be killed on site by people defending their possessions ect.

Probably a short, intense bit of chaos as the dumbest of the population rushes off to find exciting ways to get killed, followed by communities locking themselves down with guns. Look at what the Koreans did during the Rodney King Riots. That would be the face of America for a while until some new order is established.

I live in Greece...Things would pretty much remain the same. We are where we are because those who have no respect towards laws and morality break the law anyway and those who do have that respect wouldn't think about backstabbing their fellow people...

The streets will run red with blood. I'm not kidding. There is so much anger in people here in the United States, and without the threat of jail or punishment--and with so many guns--the murder rate is going to go through the roof.

Like I said, people in general won't do that. Sure, some will, enough to be a significant threat to people, but it won't be anywhere near most. Human nature simply doesn't allow for it.

Criminals exist purely because not everyone is a criminal. Otherwise, our species would have driven itself to extinction long ago. Criminals pray on the trust and general sociability of the average person, and without those crime simply stops working.

That said, this whole exercise is fairly pointless, as the US government will never relinquish its power. At all.

Chaos initially, but not everywhere(places with military bases, strong police, or normal civilians who help keep things in check). Then order would rise from the ashes. Whether or not it is the good kind of order is a toss up.

Me, I'd probably try to make it to the more rural areas(after stocking up on supplies) b/c food would quickly run low in the city. The rural areas would be better for hunting/gathering/farming and evasion/hiding from potential baddies.

Someone will move in to reinstate a governemnt, and in the meantime people will either A: Go nuts, kill eachother, loot, and just be dicks. OR B: Things will remain mostly the same, as people have been conditioned to follow the laws.

I honestly think people would mostly just behave the same and not be assholes, because even though there's nothing stopping them from stealing, you have to remember that there's nothing stopping the storeowner from shooting you in the head when you walk in now.
