The automobile stands out.

Even though now that industry is down the crapper.
Your profile says your American, yet the design of the modern auto mobile is credited to one Karl Benz of Germany (though he didn't truly invent it, as other designs had existed as toys throughout Europe before him). America, through Ford, created mass production, however they didn't by any means invent the car.

I'm Australian, I can only name 3 noteworthy inventions to have come from my country and they are:
Aeroplane black box
Rotor clothesline
split toilet flush (the second half flush button that everyone living in drought stricken parts of the world are likely familiar with).

Of those, none excite me or have greatly changed the world, I suppose the black box is the most significant as it allows us to learn from aircraft accidents.

The Submarine was invented by Cornelis Drebbel who was born in Alkmaar, the Netherlands.
The Electric car was invented by a Professor Stratingh who lived in the north part of the Netherlands.

Overall we're better at significantly improving inventions...

Every country has it fair share of smart people, and sometimes, one of these geniuses creates something bloody amazing that everyone loves. So what is your favorite invention by someone in your country?

I'm from Sweden, and my favorites are 1. The fridge, and 2. Spotify.
Sorry what? We [Australians] invented the Fridge.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_inventions
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Refrigerator
"1856 - Refrigerator - Using the principal of vapour compression, James Harrison produced the world's first practical ice making machine and refrigerator.[5]"
First PRATICAL fridge, scotland invented first fridge and sweden invented modern fridges.

So its a badge for each country, in my opinion.
