My current job is mechanical engineer, designing and occasionally building customer specific machines. Also my dream jog really. Before that I worked as a cleaner in a machine shop.

Current job: Never had one.

Dream job: Too naive to properly aim for.
Basically being a game designer for my own company and running things my way and telling big publishers to go fuck themselves...

I need a new dream job...I haven't got long to fill in my choices for university...

Current job: Searching for one.

Dream Job: Well, I have a ten year plan. In six years, I'm going into the Royal Marine Commandos, hopefully. After that, I'll try and get into a writing career, realistically working up from journalism.

So while I'll enjoy all of it a great deal, the end goal is to be a successful author and ex commando.

Sounds like another one of those SAS lads...writing a book about everything... ;)

All I can say is train like a Mother****er. I done 6 months preparation of cardio, swimming and endurance training - The first month of RT was still a MASSIVE shock to the system.

Current job: Food clerk at Fred Meyer (it's kind of like a Wal-Mart, but with a union, benefits and reasonable pay).

Dream Job...

I want someone to give me lots of money for doing what I want to. Today, I want to go ride motorcycles. Sweet, have $5000! Today, I feel like skydiving. Alright, here's a check for 8 grand! Next week, I plan to pay for 30 prostitutes to LARP a medieval battle where you can't use swords or maces but must attempt to kill your opponents with various STD's. Great idea, here's $40,000!

Jokes aside, I'd settle for anything that was reasonably low stress and fair paying. I've never been one to dream of 6 figure incomes. For about a year, I lived on my own making $8/hour in an apartment. It was barely enough to get by but my only real complaint was that I didn't like the job. So I moved back with my parents and started college. If I can get a decent desk job for around 30-40 grand a year, I'll be thrilled. My current job would pay that eventually if I stayed and started climbing management, but that involves 60 hour weeks and loads of stress every day. I like myself too much to go through that.

Well, most of my book ideas aren't particularly military.

As for preparation: As soon as I finish the physiotherapy on my left shoulder, I'm spending six years solid training for this. People say "aw, it's really tough. Don't get your hopes up about being accepted. Failure? Not if I fucking well have anything to say about it!

And I just realized it's you I quoted so you know all this anyway! Ah well. Oh, and a friend of mine's left A level college for the Paras (he chose them over the Royal Marines because they offered to take him right away). And I met one of the original WW2 Royal Marines.

Indeed, I recognized the name!

Be sure to let your shoulder heal, before doing anything strenuous with it!
Take it from someone who's been there and done that - They say it's tough? They have NO idea. It was one of the single most difficult things I've ever done.

If you want to get through it - you honest to god need to WANT it - because that'll be the only thing that'll keep you going when you're running, covered in mud, soaking wet, freezing, carrying all your equipment, in the middle of the night, in the pouring rain and every muscle on your body hurts because you haven't slept for two or three days.

Also, Be sure to crack a few pongo/Cherry beret jokes at your friend. ( He'll still need to take a BARB test, medical, interview and fitness test and then be given a waiting time before he can start Training. )

The funny thing is he's a smoker.

I don't envy that guy.

My current job entails disassembling defective ball bearing rings at a ball bearing ring factory. Exciting stuff...

I have a few perspective dream jobs though. I would enjoy being an elementary school science teacher, as well as being a game or film concept artist.
Another thought is being a big lottery jackpot winner... I certainly wouldn't mind being that...

Current job: Gainfully unemployed, to the tune of about $16,000 a year.

Goal job: Some sort of healthcare related lab work.

My dream job would be pharmacological research and development, but there have been recent layoffs and cuts, so it doesn't seem like stable employment.

Current job: Paper carrier for a local newspaper (which I hate since a lot of my customers are pricks and the worst ones are the idiots who get up at 4 just to drive around the neighborhood out of sheer unemployed/retired boredom).

Dream job: Occupational Therapist.

I used to dream of being an animator for Pixar, but we live in the age of corruption, hatred and digital piracy so dreams are all but dead to the likes of the working class. Art-related fields seem rather snippy as well since EVERYTHING is subjective and no two people will have a decent opinion of any work anyone does. Plus training for a career in said art field is like trying to win the lottery since everyone thinks they can draw well enough to merit approval from the Renaissance masters themselves. Oh well, I just hope that I can make somewhat of a decent living before the second Civil War starts up.
