Accept it as a part of life and continue living. Eventually I forget I'm depressed and I'm back to normal.

Interacting with people face to face, even talking on the phone, scares the fuck out of me. Once I'm friends with and familiar with a person, I feel fine around them.

I do think the medicine did partly make some fears less worse. I hate going to get groceries at Wal-Mart alone, but I do do it now. Though I do have to say, no matter how big the store, it always seems like it is still too small for how many people are in it. Also, people need to learn how to speed shop, they take too much time. I can get through shopping for groceries in about 15 minutes maybe a little more, but it would be less if people would just move. My strategy is, which I think more people should follow, grab and go. I tried so many different brands of the same kind of food to know that there isn't a difference. There is no difference between Eggo Waffles and Great Value Waffles, you are really just paying more for Eggo because of the name.

Sorry got off track. But yeah, medicine works, but drug companies really need to work on how it makes people feel, beyond helping with the problem it was made for.

There's a lot of misconceptions regarding both depression and it's treatment. First off, depression =/= depression, as the word is commonly used to describe feeling glum, but rather a neurological disorder causing serotonin deficiency (very simply put). Normal "blues" last up to a few weeks, usually surrounding an event which is subjectively stressful for person experiencing, whereas clinical depression can last years, with or without triggers.

To my experience, depression is not sadness, but a numb, mindless, lethargic apathy. It is a thick fog obscuring reason and desire. As to the efficacy of the patent molecules synthesized as treatment for it - I think their highly subjective track record should warrant a cautionary skepticism. Of course, I'm just preaching to the choir for you two, but as a general tid-bit for the reading body, there you all have it.

It would be a disservice to all the hardworking neurologists and biochemists and psychiatrists to say that psychiatry is still a medical science in its infancy, but it wouldn't be inaccurate to say that it's still a stumbling toddler. I've no doubt it will grow substantially during all of our lifetimes.

At least, for the love of god, they're not still doodling out phrenology maps and sizing trepanation nails.

- Bupropion (Wellbutrin)

is probably a lot worse off than I am (no offense intended) and snap the fuck out of it. Oh yeah, cigarettes help. But what don't they help? (Aside from bad breath, yellow teeth, lung cancer, the wallet, breathing problems, etc.)

Ahh, shucks - I dunno... I've had some pretty rough challenges, but everyone has to run their own obstacle course, you know? These days I'm happy with myself, my life, etc etc... but, you know:

Retreat within the darkest corners of my mind. Weird people out and start talking about the necessessity of chaos and horror and how it all has the greatest artistic merit. Do what I can to give a cry for help to people because deep down I'm afraid of not only being alone, but myself as well.

Best thing to do honestly is if you can't find anyone to listen or understand you then Beethoven usually helps along with a prayer.

I listen to some Tech N9ne Young jeezy smoke a blunt and drink some 4 LOKOS. you cnt be depressed after that.

all your solutions are too temporary (or stupid)! do you have any tips that will stave off depression for days at a time?

Actually have to agree with raphaelsredemption on this one this is probably why I like dexter so much.

I'm probably quite severely depressed but I can't be bothered wasting the money on a shrink to tell me what I already know, in the same way I'll never go to the doctor if I'm merely having the yearly flu because I know that aside from a note getting me out of work it won't make a difference, and if work want me there throwing up on the customers then good for them.

I've never found a cure but I have found that games tv and books can at least numb the world.

I personally like to jog, play a game of traditional "any non-contact sport". Meditate, post on the off-topic forums to make myself seem more useful. Play video games, usually not shooting, that just makes me somewhat more angry. Listen to happy songs, I guess.
Last time I made a list of what to do to make me more useful, which lowers the chance of another upcoming depression. The first thing on my list is to make an obligation to think ten times slower when I am angry or depressed. I find it easy to stay away from bad decisions, which will make you even less depressed. My "depression" is usually a mixture of rage, embarrassment, and regret, unlike most people's plain traumatic "sad".

Depression is tricky. Rage is simple.

Obvious solution? Turn depression in rage and then fix that.
