A war, simple as.
You are in an experimental but in no way unique piece of kit, whether a mech, tank or aircraft I dont really care and tasked with winning the war.
The game actually consists of pitched battles of an epic scale, vast armies clash, targets of oportunity arise in the form of supply caches, enemy officers or medivac/reinforcement units that you are tasked to destry while trying to exploit breaches in enemy lines of defence and countering your own breaches.
In between battles you allocate resources to various tasks, intel gathering, R&D, reinforcements and equipment upgrades, both for you and your army.
Support powers and intelligence gathering should also play a role.
I'm fed up of games in which 'you are our only hope' I dont mind being a fairly sizable piece of hope, but I'd like a bit of help along the way, if its not to much trouble. I'm hoping the next Mechwarrior game at least partially delivers on this.
