Don't know if it would be a "dream game" per-se, but a friend and I had an idea for a game that I think would be pretty sweet.
A 4 player co-op multiplayer (this idea is older than L4D)
The 4 characters are all completely different, like one is a gun enthusiast, so he plays the game as a first person shooter, and can lay different traps (trip wires, hunting traps)
One is a doctor who can (you guessed it) heal and treat injuries, and do other stuff I can't remember.
One is a hacker who can pick locks and do computer related things, be it hacking or just finding info to share with the team, and has access to more puzzles that need to be solved.
I can't remember what the last was, but I'm thinking it was a 3rd person gameplay martial artist, who is more agile and can do some light assassins creed/prince of persia stuff, then help people up to different areas and such.
The whole game takes place in one small town. Each game you start up to play takes about 1.5 to 2 hours, so like sitting to watch a movie.
The twist is that built into the game in this one open world level would be various (slightly randomly generated) scenarios, such as a slasher film type stalker slowly killing everybody, zombies, alien invasion/abductions, an earthquake that opens a hole in the middle of town which creatures start coming out of, forest fires that spread into town, etc
We dreamed up like 30 different ideas for this town. Every time you play you never know what scenario you're going to get, and it only becomes obvious after a few minutes in once you have time to meet up with eachother, learn a bit from NPCs, and explore.
Once the shit hits the fan, you have to work as a group to either solve puzzles, escape the town, survive, whatever. Part of it would be discovering exactly what your objective is, and the whole town would be designed to take advantage of the different characters unique skills.
It's a pretty ambitious idea, but I think that it could be pretty cool.
