I had a train of thought the other day that went along the line of "If I could pick and choses, not just any developer, but developers and assuming they would be able to bring out their best sides even if working together, what would be the best game I could imagine".

So here we are (please keep in mind this is a very utopic imagining):

-My dream game would be a strategic online MMOFPS.
-Story made by Bioware, because of the amazing stories in "Mass Effect 2", and "Dragon age: origins".
-Core gameplay would have Infinity ward in charge, possibly with help from Blizzard to help them ease in to an online environment.
-It would have graphics designed by crytek because "Crysis" was gorgeous!
-Playtesting would be controlled by Valve, because I find it amazing how they not only made TF2 balanced when it came out when there are so many different classes in the game, but they also managed to add new weapons and gadgets to it without screwing up, said balance. Besides, they play tested L4D so insanely much just to make sure that it would have hours of re-play value.
- Possibility for hand-to-hand combat done by Rock steady studio. Arkham Asylum, 'nuff said.
- Voice acting for the in-game avatars and the NPCs by Ocean Sound Corp. because they nailed the dub for "Death note" so insanely well, but assuming that we have to pick video game studious, then whatever studio was in charge of the voice acting for "uncharted 2"

Probably missed quite a few studios, but these are the first that spring to mind. Who would you want to create your dream game, and why? Please keep in mind that we can be as utopic here was you like ;).

A little bit of everything in one smooth playing world. Just the right amount of online, FPS, RPG, Sandbox, and it should have a make-your-own character selection and a name system that actually attemtps to say the name.

Yeah what he said... That actually sounds like my dream game, word for word.

EDIT: What Jang said that is...

Not so much a dream game but I'd really want a virtual reality machine. From what I understand, it'd be like the holodeck from Star Trek. I'd love to play oblivion or fallout in that.

Once upon a time I told my friends about my ideal game:

"A sci-fi shooter with semi-realistic gun physics and a location-based damage/health system, with RPG mechanics, a dialog system, a mix of futuristic energy weapons and standard ballistic guns, and set in space."

So far three games have been made which are pretty close to my original vision: System Shock 2, Deus Ex, and now Mass Effect 2. Oh hello, those are also some of my all-time favorite games.

hmm... Well glad to see people responding, but when I said dream game in this sense, I imagined that people primarily said which developers they wanted, or more precisely, what developers they wanted to do one specific part of a game.

I game ALOT, but regardless of that I doubt I would be the best person to make a game, even if it was just for myself. I doubt that even with enough program savvy that I would posses the imagination to make a good game. I might stand alone in this category, but I think a developer is more likely to create what I want than myself.
So in essence what I was curious about is more who you wanted to create your dream game/how your dream game would be created, with just a dash of: what your dream game would be (bit like my example).

I appreciate the feedback though, and I am sorry if I came off as too vague.

Massive Multiplayer Online First Person Sandbox Game. It should work with Google Earth and recreate, well, ideally the entire Earth in a 1-1 scale. But I'd settle for every capital of every country. It should have a "map choice system" Where you could choose to live through a historic battlefield, and be able to change the outcome. Then, certain variables should take place meaning that if you for example changed the events of Waterloo in one stage, then if you go back to our time the world should have changed accordingly. That way, you should do a "server jump" of sorts to the world fitting the one you have created by F'ing around with history.

Like, there would be a "surpreme Nazi rule" server or a "Asian Empire" server. Or something like that. It would be fun to see which choices people would make and what kind of worlds would be born from it.

Basically, an online FPS game with the classes and balancing of TF2, with the gameplay and style of Monday Night Combat.

Turned based combat with no random battles and every battle seems to have a point and not there just to drag the game on. Environment will be key to many battles with multiple solutions, each battle would be like a puzzle. A magic system with some logic and maybe some pseudo science such as the Full Metal Alchemist animes. For instance in one of them, the main character uses soggy TNT to create ammonia (I think it was) to mess with the super sense of smell of the enemies he is fighting. I would like have anime style art work but with western RPG choices. I would want tons of pseudo philosophy and silly intellectual jokes. I want it to be emotional whiplash of one part being hilariously silly then depressing then again like that and again, again like Full Metal Alchemist. Option to be a total pacifist and still be able to win the game. (but maybe have a twist that being a pacifist somehow results in their being more suffering for everyone.... But I guess the idea that motivations and one's actions can be very separate from the results of one's actions. I don't think a good with good intentions necessarily will be a good thing while an evil act with evil intentions in the long run may have better results.) Towns, cities with people to talk about. Well designed side quests. Many endings. Also multiple ways to get through the areas like the Deus Ex games. Story hopefully, done by Chris Avellone (Planescape: Torment still the best story experience I have enjoyed in any artistic medium) or others as good. Also the game should be HUGE. Choices will have a impact later on in the game like Witcher does that you wont' be able to see for a while.

Anything as ambitious, big and nonlinear chioces as I would want better have bugs/glitches when it first comes out. Any truly great RPG with choices does.

Sounds really good, except for the anime style art work and pseudo science part.

I'd like 6 games to come out like that with the old school d&d artstyle. One in Greyhawk, Forgotten Realms, Planescape, Ravenloft, Hollow World and Dark Sun. Using 2.0 rules, except for the Hollow World and Dark Sun games would use the 3
.5 rules.
Pseudo science may be the wrong term. I mean the game simply would have some bizarre complex logic behind the crazy magic in the world, maybe combined with some real scientific concepts. I just mean whatever rules of physics work differently and some kind of magic but all with some kind of rules they follow.

The anime art style is simply a personal bias of mine. I love anime. I know, I know a lot of it is shit.

Dark Sun and Planescape would be sweet settings but the rest you mentioned aren't that amazing to me from what I know of. Read a few of the Ravenlott novels, not that bad but just seems like generic horror stories, not partically a bad thing though. Forgotten Realms seems to be a bit too generic to me (starting out NWN2 right about now though, but that is mainly because i heard the expansion pack Mask of the Betrayer is really good and seems to have some similarities to Planescape: Torment) . Don't know much about Greyhawk or Hollow World though. I personally don't like the memorization of spells in D and D that much, prefer magic points.

*A Fallout game made by Obsidian with a new, bug free engine and for Bethesda to have no part in the creation of it (publishing is fine).

*A Warhammer 40K game similar to Fire Warrior but superior in every way and featuring unique stories for the different factions that are long and varied plus a great multiplayer.

*A Dynasty Warriors game that features a completely revamped combat system that makes all of the character unique and have different fighting styles that you need to experiment with to get used to and can be better or worse at different jobs than other characters. The game should have two different musou (stoyr) modes; one that is similar to the character battles in DW$:XL and Legend mode in DW5:XL and a kingdom mode like DW4/7. Also Free Mode is a must and should make every battle available and playable from every side while also having the interchangable cutscenes from DW3/4.

Re-work the Jin army and actually make it comprised of only Jin members and extend Wu, Wei and Shu's story to the very end of their rule. Get rid of those absolutely pointless characters (Bao Sanniang, Guan Suo, Lian Shi) and fucking bring back Pang De and Zuo Ci. Make character sthat have importance but not enough for playable rank unique NPCs (Liu Shan is a good example).

Get rid of the weapon swap system and give every single character a fully unique weapon and for the musou attacks make it the continuous ones from DW2/3/4/5 but also have the singular one from DW7 available too. Have character's previous costumes from older games vailable as unlockable costumes for people that may not like new designs (like DW4 and 5). battlefields should all feel unique and should have good character interaction like siege battles, laying ambushes and bases. Ladder climbing and swimming should stay but for battles like chi Bi make sure that it is easy to get out of the water. Online co-op should return but make it more significant but also keep offline co-op. Also characters should have special abilities similar to those in Samurai Warriors 2.

And please bring back Paul St. Peter as Yuan Shao!!!!

A RTT FPS RPG, where Obscidian will take care of the player-driven narrative ang RPG elements, Bioware will look after the dialogue (with help from Erik Wolpaw) and art direction, Bohemia will work on the tactical gameplay, DICE will be working on the gunplay and dynamic first person view, and the game itself will run on the iteration of the Source engine that'll run Half Life 3.

So, yeah...

What about an engine for making Pen and Paper games? You still need the dice and such but you could recreate a 3D model of the enviroment the game takes place in, in the same easy way as LittleBigPlanet or Minecraft.
